POLITICO's Robin Bravender reports from Tallahassee, Fla.:
Santorum was asked at Florida State University about whether he'd expand NASA programs after Newt Gingrich's pledge for a new moon base.
"I go back to trying to be very up front and honest with the people of Florida, the people of the country," he said.
But given a potential explosion of inflation, he said, "the idea that anybody's going out and talking about grand, new, very expensive schemes to spend more money at a time when we do not have our fiscal house in order, in my opinion, is plain, crass politics."

Hey Rick?
Ever heard of the ‘private sector’?

Staying in the race just to help your pal Mitt Romney is crass politics, Rick.
Santorum needs to understand how Obama-Holdren is actively handing our economic and national security to China.
Rick Santorum needs to think about what he’s saying. Or is he just using his remarks to appeal to uninformed voters outside of Florida because he can’t compete in Florida?
I would rather give NASA a dollar than a welfare momma.
2020 China Russia and India establish unified lunar colonies and secure contracts with thousands of companies for access.
President Rick says whatever. The real money is in sweater vests!
The US space program has produced countless benefits for the American economy and its citizens—It was taxpayer money that was well spent, IMHO.
Santorum is an unimaginative, narrow-minded nitwit who prefers to hand-out tax dollars indiscriminately (look at his voting record) when he’s not kissing the butt of Arlen Spector.
Oh yeah, Rick. Didn’t just the threat of Star Wars (not the Lucas movie) bring the soviets to there knees?
Gingrich’s plan is trash.
I do not want to live under the chicoms and ivan... and I grew up watching the technology created to take us to the moon... change the world. When you text your mates just remember this... much of the silicon that creates the virtual world we enjoy came from that early research... one way or the other.
“We must do this and the other things... not because they are easy... but because they are hard". I would rather jobs be created to keep America on top of the 21st Century than spend that money on Solyndra or Acorn. Our Military certainly needs to partner in this... they need the advantage to defend us during this dangerous century. If we cut all the domestic giveaways out and get SS and medicare under control and put in place pro business agendas and laws... we can afford to back this endeavor and it will pay back far more than we can imagine... I know... I lived through it before and I want to witness it again before I die.

In agreement here! Bow out, Rick. Your country is calling. We need to put the Willard threat behind us, once and for all.
Then there are the engineers, the scientists, the doctors, the historians connected to these "out there" projects. Deny them or encourage them?
Gingrich is my 2nd choice after Santorum but we’re defending this plan?
You said “Gingrichs plan is trash.”
I thought it sounded ok. What’s wrong with it?
I’d ‘walk softly’ if I were you..

That poster is no more..
And if we don't provide them with the opportunity, the Russkies and the ChiComs will.
Malarky -- the manned space program has produced MINISCULE benefits for the amount of money spent. Hardly any return on equity at all. Virtually all advances have come from privately funded research and military (unmanned) programs.
Gingrich is great just not a fan of the plan. I’m not a troll though. Of course I’ll unite behind Gingrich especially if Rick drops out soon.
Hey, Santorum. Did you see Newt’s speech in Cocoa? Did you understand it? You along with the rest of the do nothing’s in office are cowards and clueless to what it means to be an American.
Aviation was started by an idea, and nurtured through private industries. Newt is saying the private sector thru prize money will fuel the space program.
Please get out of the way. The attacks on Newt are coming from all over. Michelle Malkin this morning. NRO, American Spectator etc etc etc.
If he wins with all this coming down around him the country will be saved. YOu’re hanging around like some vulture thinking that you’re going to claim his position.
Frankly, you make me ill.
One average-sized platinum-group metal asteroid is worth the entire world’s gross annual product. That is trillions of dollars, and that ain’t trash.
We’ve had the technology to mine, smelt and manufacture in space for over thirty years. Democrats, lik JFK, used to have vision, but no more. They’re all about divying-up pies, not making more pies.
