NRA - Shame on You!
NRA | 11/23/11 | Self

Posted on 11/23/2011 1:15:58 PM PST by pabianice

I have long been a proud member of the NRA. Today I received an unsolicited DVD from the NRA on home defense. I was instructed that, if I did not want to pay $ 12.95 and keep the DVD, I had to return it to the NRA.

First, this is unlawful. No one may be made to pay for something they did not order, nor are they obligated to return it.

Second, this is very disappointing. I have long found the NRA to be an honest organization made-up of lawful gun owners and others interested in the U.S.'s long tradition of shooting and hunting. This mailing should be immediately disavowed as a mistake and an apology given by the NRA.

Shame on you, NRA. You should know better. And do better.

You sure it's actually from the NRA?

Where are you supposed to send your money?

I’d keep the DVD and not pay for it. I don’t think the law is on their side if someone did that. Especially if they sent it to non-members who happen to be on a mailing list.

According to this gun site it says right in the letter you don't have to pay for it and you don't have to send it back.

Read it again.

Incorrect. It says pay for it or return it. If you pay for it you will then keep getting DVDs, presumably to be paid for.

I’d give your local post office a call and see what they say.

My bet is they could be fined, if they are doing what you say.

Gun Owners of America is a great organization. I left the NRA and went to them after the NRA paid for radio advertising for that crook John Murtha in our neighboring house district.

I gave up on the NRA long ago, after their endless requests for money, as they built their new muliti-million dollar facility...

"I have long found the NRA to be an honest organization made-up of lawful gun owners and others interested in the U.S.'s long tradition of shooting and hunting."

You may have but I have found the NRA to be behind EVERY MAJOR GUN CONTROL LAW ever passed.

The NRA has supported and helped author every gun control legislation in the past 100 years.

From their own 1968 American Rifleman article:

"Item: The NRA supported The National Firearms Act of 1934 which taxes and requires registration of such firearms as machine guns, sawed-off rifles and sawed-off shotguns.

Item: The NRA supported The Federal Firearms Act of 1938, which regulates interstate and foreign commerce in firearms and pistol or revolver ammunition, and prohibits the movement in interstate or foreign commerce of firearms and ammunition between certain persons and under certain conditions.

The NRA supported the original "Dodd Bill" to amend the Federal Firearms Act in regard to handguns when it was introduced as S.1975 in August, 1963. Among its provisions was the requirement that a purchaser submit a notarized statement to the shipper that he was over 18 and not legally disqualified from possessing a handgun.

NRA support of Federal gun legislation did not stop with the earlier Dodd bills. It currently backs several Senate and House bills which, through amendment, would put new teeth into the National and Federal Firearms Acts. The essential provisions which the NRA supports are contained in 2 Senate bills introduced by Senator Roman L. Hruska (Nebr.) and House bills introduced by Congressmen Cecil R. King (17th fist.-Calif.) and Robert L. F. Sikes (1st Dist.Fla.). These bills would:

1. Impose a mandatory penalty for the carrying or use of a firearm, transported in interstate or foreign commerce, during the commission of certain crimes.

2. Place "destructive devices" (bombs, mines, grenades, crew-served military ordnance) under Federal regulation.

3. Prohibit any licensed manufacturer or dealer from shipping any firearm to any person in any State in violation of the laws of that state.

4. Regulate the movement of handguns in interstate and foreign commerce by:

a. requiring a sworn statement, containing certain information, from the purchaser to the seller for the receipt of a handgun in interstate commerce;

b. providing for notification of local police of prospective sales;

c. requiring an additional 7-day waiting period by the seller after receipt of acknowledgement of notification to local police;

d. prescribing a minimum age of 21 for obtaining a license to sell firearms and increasing the license fees;

e. providing for written notification by manufacturer or dealer to carrier that a firearm is being shipped in interstate commerce;

f. increasing penalties for violation. "

we were thinking of becoming life members but then we found out they support democrats. Even though a few democrats are “pro-gun”, the money they give or even the endorsement they give them allows the democrats to spend that money elsewhere, in a tighter race where an anti-gun dem is facing a pro gun republican.

I expressed my strong disagreement with this policy to their PAC. As we all know, the eventual goal of the democrat party is the end of private gun ownership and the subjudication of the individual to the authority of the state. Any dollar to a democrat aids in that end. I never heard back so we kept our money in our pocket.

They did that with a video cassette a couple of years ago. I called them up and told them that if it ever happened again I'd turn it in to the state Attorney General for mail fraud. I haven't heard back and it hasn't happened again.

I'm a life member and this ploy was so transparently greasy as to make me consider tearing up the card. The thing to remember about the NRA is that they're a DC lobbying organization, nothing more and nothing less. This sort of behavior is normal thereabouts, which explains a very great deal about the government we currently have.

Although we don’t have gun registration what’s to prevent the DOJ from obtaining the subscription list from org’s like NRA or GOA? With that list the DOJ has a pretty good idea who might have guns.

I recently received a call supposedly from the NRA soliciting membership renewal. They had most of my personal information so I committed to renewing. I don’t do credit card via the phone unless I place the call so when the lady asked for my card number I explained my rule. She responded by repeating the sales pitch. At this point I have yet to renew membership.
