Poor Gov. Rick Perry. He’s admitted that political debates aren’t his thing and that his college grades weren’t anything to brag about.

But then, he missed the date of a major piece of American history (the Revolutionary War) by 200 years, ABC points out.

Yes, but a first grader call tell you the date of the American Revolution, while the governor of Texas cannot.

But, then again, went to A&M and the may not go that deeply into American History in Aggieland.

Who the heck can’t remember 1776 (I know the revolutionary war didn’t start till a few years later, but sheesh.)

At least say “late 1700’s”.....

Quick - someone ask him how many states there are.

That question will surely separate the true Presidential material from the mere poseurs.

Some one quick, ask him what year it is.... Obama signed the Queens guest book as 2008, no one questioned that

He simply confused two similar events in world history, the American Revolution and the rise of the Ottoman Empire.

Lexington and Concord were fought on April 19, 1775, if memory serves.

Should’ve asked Perry how many states are in the United States. RE the revolution question, maybe a bit of insecurity left over from past performance and feeling intimidated by such a lame question.

the reason that we fought the revolution in the 16th century was to get away from that kind of onerous crown if you will

Undoubtedly Rick was making a much deeper point, that the revolution in thought sparked by Luther's nailing his 95 theses on the door in Wittenberg in the 16th century would ultimately spell the end for slavish adherence to Kings.

Of greater concern to me is his view that you can "mate up" two male creatures to produce a third. Shirley they don't teach that at A&M. Was that a sly pander to the gay vote?

The American Revolution and 1776 are covered in the 1st grade for the slow kids and in kindergarten for the regular kids.

How could he go 16th century for the American Revolution?

I saw the video of the mistake. He looked very tired or maybe under the weather. He is not my favorite candidate but jeez folks can’t we cut him a little slack. None of us perform at our best when we’re ill or weary.

Wasn’t he “tired” before his poor debate performances. Maybe he should just stay in bed.

We’re just having fun teasing him. They’re all gonna say funny things at one time or another.

More seriously, he does look tired to me although the Perry people adamantly deny it. The man just had back surgery in July and that has to be a factor here.

Who the heck can’t remember 1776?

E. D. Hirsch, an educator whose mission is to make young Americans culturally literate, has argued that there are certain dates that all culturally literate Americans simply have to know: 1066, 1492, 1776, and 1939-1945.

When he botched the last debate, his excuse was that he was tired.

Is there any reason why Perry would be tired and Herman Cain and the 80 year old Ron Paul would not be tired?

“Wasn’t he “tired” before his poor debate performances. Maybe he should just stay in bed.”

That’s not a bad idea. We can elect presidents, Senators and Congressmen and we simply feed them tons of Ambien so that they stay in bed all day and all night.

For some reason I always have a glitch when it comes to people talking about a century. If someone says “16th Century” it takes my brain a second to think “okay, 16th century means it is really dates like 1560, etc. So it is for the hundred years BEFORE the “16”).

Perhaps Perry did the same thing - but he got confused and thought “dates in the 1700’s like 1776”? Not trying to make excuses for the guy - just wondering.

Of course, like I tell my kids all the time when it comes to helping them with their home work - I’m an idiot.
