The Flight 93 Memorial, Revisited

You may remember that there was considerable controversy when the design for the Flight 93 memorial was unveiled. It was called “Crescent of Embrace.” The crescent is, of course, the central symbol of Islam, and the design apparently was intended to symbolize some sort of rapprochement with that religion. The winning design was chosen by a jury, and some members of the jury, including Thomas Burnett, whose son was one of the heroes who brought down the airplane, vigorously opposed it. As I understand it, no one on the jury questioned the Muslim reference inherent in the crescent, but a majority believed that it would somehow be “healing” for the memorial to be, in part at least, a sort of tribute to Islam.

“Since I am no longer in office, I can do unpopular things,” Bill Clinton declared at the end of his remarks at Saturday’s dedication ceremony. “I told the Secretary of the Interior, the head of your development program, that I was aghast to find out we still need to raise $10 million to finish this place [Flight 93 Memorial]. And Speaker Boehner and I have already volunteered to do a bipartisan event in Washington and let’s get this show on the road. Let’s roll.”

Is there a slaughterhouse anywhere near there? A couple of gallons of swine blood and a goodly amount of hog entrails and body parts strewn around so as to thoroughly immunize the whole site against any meaningful muslim sentiment might change the outlook. Any good ol’ boys with a pickup truck out there?

It’s an UGLY ASS “memorial”, when it SHOULD be BEAUTIFUL and UPLIFTING!!!! The HOLES in NY are ASS UGLY also!<P.A CRESCENT and TWO HOLES!!!! OMG!!! And the CRESCENT costs MILLIONS and MILLIONS and it’s NOTHING!! WHO STOLE THE MONEY???

Why doesn't Clinton just donate the money from the 70 million he's made speaking around the world? Yahoo News had this headline "Clinton's Mighty Gesture at Ceremony." I don't think that agreeing to raise (taxpayers? donations?) money is so mighty.

Ain’t that the truth. Bill Clinton did his part to make 9/11 happen. Can you blame him for wanting a monument for his efforts?
