Seventeen (17) things that critics are saying about Rick Perry
Pesky Truth ^ | August 16th, 2011 | Garnet

Posted on 08/17/2011 6:25:03 AM PDT by shield

Over the past couple of months Rick Perry has been considering a run for POTUS. As of Saturday, August 13, he’s in with both feet.

Since he’s been Governor of Texas for over ten years, folks from the other “56 states” are asking Texans what kind of governor he’s been and what we think. I decided that what I “think” isn’t good enough – I could be wrong. So, I decided to do some research on Perry’s record and form a more accurate, fact-based opinion on his qualifications instead of relying on my general perceptions.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I voted for Perry in each of the three gubernatorial elections since 2002 and I am a conservative and a registered Republican. It was easy for me to vote for Perry since the alternative(s) were either uber-RINOs in the primaries or liberal Democrats in the general elections. Under the circumstances, my choice was always easy.

While researching Perry’s pros and cons, I’ve read every article and blog post that I could find – over several weeks. Many of those posts had 2-300 comments associated with them – I read them all.

After reading literally thousands of comments, it’s become apparent that there are quite a lot of anti-Perry activists out there throwing all sorts of disparaging rhetorical crap against the wall in hopes that some will stick and they can influence someone, anyone, to become anti-Perry too. The unfortunate thing is that most of their negative statements are either completely false, at worst, or misleading, at best.

That’s my biggest problem with Perry - his position on islam. But I guess all politicians are PC these days. Makes me sick.

What about this? Perry’s own words, he want’s an open border between us and Mexico.

President Fox’s vision for an open border is a vision I embrace, as long as we demonstrate the will to address the obstacles to it. An open border means poverty has given way to opportunity, and Mexico’s citizens do not feel compelled to cross the border to find that opportunity. It means we have addressed pollution concerns, made substantial progress in stopping the spread of disease, and rid our crossings of illicit drug smuggling activity. Clearly we have a long way to go in addressing those issues. At the same time we must continue to deepen our economic ties, expanding opportunities for Mexican and U.S. companies to do business on both sides of the border. The outlook is promising, even if the road to prosperity is a long one. We share a bond as neighbors, and we find our culture north of the Rio Grande to be increasingly defined by the strong traits of people of Hispanic descent. Texas has long enjoyed a unique identity, an identity forged by an independent spirit, and the convergence of many different peoples. We must welcome change in the 21st Century as we have in every century before it.

i don’t think an evangelical should praise Islam, and quote approvingly from the Quran. especially when the Quran denies the divinity of Jesus,...

If we were voting for the pastor of your church, I could see our point, but we are not.

...and 99.9 of our troops are killed by Muslims, in the name of Islam.

While I would agree that the goal of Islam is to have the whole world Islamic, only a small part of the Muslim world is trying to achieve that through jihad. I think most of theme just hope to achieve it through demographics - they are breeding and replaciong the populations of Western Europe, etc. I think I would rather have a president who is willing to fight the jihadists, and if not able to make allies of the rest of the muslims, at least keep them on the sidelines. Remember, there are over a billion muslims in the world. If we ever DO get the point where we are at war with all muslims, we will likely lose. We are out-numbered about 4-1.

Look at the bottom line with Americans...it’s not this it is the economy and jobs...Perry has that record the rest is a smoke and mirrors. As Carville famously said...IT’S THE ECONOMY STUPID.

Look, there are the cult followers out here who as you know have zero interest in Perry facts and within the hour will take up the whining against them, begging to bog Perry riders down in the muck of the track with their pointless questions and comments while they wait. And wait. And wait.

Right.

The ones who just come to spam and troll are not interested in anything but promoting someone else.

Indeed.

Many think that by keeping Perry supporters busy correcting misinformation, that they’re “helping” their candidate.

Why are you writing to me? I have no problem with you posting critical articles. I don’t know who Perry is and I’ll read both the negative and positive. I’m a Sarah supporter but I’ll have to make another choice if she doesn’t get in.

[ it’s become apparent that there are quite a lot of anti-Perry activists out there throwing all sorts of disparaging rhetorical crap against the wall ]

You GOT ME... I'm skewered.. nailed.. exposed.. unmasked..
I'm active but not an activist.. whatever that means..

Perry has the stink of Juan Mclaim on im'....
Sarah Palin seems to trying to wash it all off...
May be successful... shes probably embarrassed for being such a PollyAnna in 2008..

Theres many of us still mad that we were forced to vote for Captain McQueeq.. it won't happen again..
Perry seems to be cast by "democrat casting" for a Kabuki Theater production..
All masks, makeup, strange music and object lesson villains and heros..

I'm extremely suspicious of him.. we need someone to administer the Coup D'Gra to the federal government..
This BULL(political speaking) in the political bull fight.. is suffering.. it MUST BE KILLED..

Ron Paul could and would do that.. but the boy is crazy off his meds..
Perry would make some fine adjustments BUT THAT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH..
The bitch(bull) MUST BE KILLED... gutted, fileted, vacuum packed and frozen..

I'm not sure Bachmann can accomplish all that but she does have sharp 'nives...
Newt of course sounds good but hes toast and would probably cave anyway.. let him make all the sausage out of scraps ....

I want somebody to KILL THIS BEAST.. Perry would save it for the next Donkey Rodeo.. Romney is a bad joke..
THAT is simply just NOT GOOD ENOUGH...

I thought all you Texans were big tough guys, loaded down with guns willing to take on all comers.

Now a few anti-Perry threads and you’re running to mama. Why am I not surprised?

Also, when he stood on the hay bale at Ames the other day, he comes across with his posture as if he’s saying “I’ve got the biggest d*** here!”

When's the last time the one with the biggest d*** didn't win?

Another thing that article WAS 2001...this is 2011...if you live in Texas and paid attention to Perry as governor...you’d have noticed how much Perry has grown especially when it comes to states rights, etc. He had a republican president for a number of years...then he has had do deal with a communist president...he has grown leaps and bounds.

I'm not a fan of his demeanor either. That being said, I'm not a big fan of the demeanor of a lot of politicians, including Obama, Perry, Palin, etc. But as long as Perry's right on the issues, I can overlook the fact that he's got some flaws as a candidate. Some people can't overlook those personality-type issues, though.

It'll take six months or so for it all to settle out and see if his style wears on people or not.

I had to run a few errands this morning and am now just getting to read this article.

I’m on Number 7 AND I AM THRILLED that someone put this together. An AMAZING amount of work and information.

BRAVO.

Back to the article........

The man who alerted me to this article lives in Alaska...but grew up in Texas and was a year behind Perry at A & M. At first, he wasn’t too sold on Perry...but after his own research, he is now a huge supporter of Perry. Usually, Aggies will support other Aggies...he didn’t till he proved to himself Perry was the real deal.

No, it’s not so well researched. See my #32 above.

OK I read your #32, but I still don't understand why you posted to me. All I said was it's a good article and thanked the poster; is that some kind of faux pas?

I think it is too much to ask of those sitting on the limb’s end to be talked down. My complaint is the amount of ink we spill entertaining their endless dead-end posits against Perry because they have absolutely nothing else better to do having been methodically hustled by their own favorite who is a high profile ono-show. What else can a cult following do, in such a void, but bang away at Rick and loll away the time on their hands? I won’t seek site intervention. I recommend just let the limb break off of its own weight.
