Attendance at the "right" schools (Ivy League, U of Chicago, Stanford, Berkeley, a few others) is a proxy for intelligence: and as a first order approximation, since those schools are selective in undergraduate admissions, it's not too bad of a proxy, if you have no other information about a person.However, if you consider whether the person is a legacy admission, or the relative of a contributor or Democrat political figure, or a favored "minority," then you'll want to see the person's SAT scores before you even deduce he can read and write.
