The Pirates of the Caribbean movies have taken an interesting course. The first movie sounded like another Disney attempt to cash in on old favorites from yesteryear...the Pirate ride being one of the most famous in their amusement park for decades. Of course, The Curse of the Black Pearl took in an astounding $350 million domestically, and $650 million worldwide, coming in only second to the third Lord of the Rings movie for movie receipts in 2003. That assured sequels...which were largely disappointing. The second and third movies suffered from being add-ons to the original, which never intended on making a trilogy in the first place. The movies had too many characters, too many story lines, and became bogged down in nuance.
When the fourth installment was announced, many fans were simply not that interested. But Johnny Depp, along with Producer Jerry Bruckheimer, appear to have got their mojo back.

I liked all three movies, so I guess to each his own.
Wow. Think my son is watching it now. Wish I had seen this review earlier!
Haven’t seen any of ‘em, maybe never will, but I read that no silver halide molecules were harmed during the “filming” of this latest one.
You absolutely must find a way to have the Disney movie link directly to your webpage.

#1) Good fun
#2) meh
#3) YECH! WWTT??
I really like (and own) the first three movies. Will be adding the 4th to that list soon I’m sure.
I fell asleep during the second one, but saw most of it.
I've never been able to make it all of the way through the third one.
I guess I'll give this one a shot when it hits DVD.

Good to know...I was in #3 in the last scene with multiple pirates. They had an ad in Craiglist in L.A., made sure everyone was in their pirate outfit and was shot over 5 days in Long Beach. Over 250 “pirates’ showed up. Even my business partners back then joined in. Sure, we were never paid but there was free food for 5 days of fun. And no, my line was not ‘YAAAAARRRRR’. We were assigned to Keira Knightley’s “ship” and she had a great bod.
Only a matter of time....
Pirate Trek: Pirates of the Carribean Meet the Klingons
LLS
Starts in 15 minutes I’ll let you all know.
i like all three and plan to see the fourth, which stars Penelope Cruz...
I suppose you do the pirate days up at Big Bear Lake?
That is so cool! I loved the first one. The others not as much. I love Capt. Jack Sparrow.
Agree with you reviews. Loved the first one, Second one was blah and the third sucked so hard, prostitutes were complaining about the competition.
“Havent seen any of em, maybe never will...”
The first one is truly LOL funny! And it’s disney, so it is clean, maybe just a tad racy in parts, and scary at times, but a very amusing flick.
The Commodore was the unsung hero of the first movie, and quite a bit of the glue that held it together. That, and the fact that I liked Jack Davenport in "Coupling" and he had no problem in this dramatic role.
The first film, everyone kept to their principle and ideals -- right down to the two comic relief Navy man who saw the ghost pirates and instead of jumping back into the water in terror, they gave each other a look and charged into a battle they couldn't possibly win.
Everyone betrayed their ideals in the second movie, and by the third movie, everyone was a pirate.
I’d watch PC read a phone book!
