This is a funny video - but not exactly realistic.
I just completed a degree, returning to university after 20 years to take a new direction. I’m rabidly conservative and graduated in the top 10 in my class (at a major university) and won several awards and honors.
My professors were not blatantly liberal and many of the students I interacted with were as conservative as I am. Even if the instructors were liberal, their point of view never came into the equation, and political topics especially examined both sides of the argument, and arguments from either perspective were accepted as long as you could support your reasoning. I even referred to Hillary as Hitlery in one class and added the picture of her decked out in Hitler uniform, with the mustache and all to top off a 20 page paper on the evils of liberalism and the death and bastardation of American ideals. My teacher stated only, “Hitlery?! Really?” - and gave me an A.
I read allot of posts on this site that put down university educations today, try and trivialize the process and compare it to the excellence of yester-year, all the while bemoaning a dumbing down of the nation. This criticism is generally very self-serving - but don’t boast your ego at the cost of belittling others success. As someone who has two degrees and now is working on a Masters, and all this 20 some odd years in-between, I can honestly say that most people who are espousing views against a university education and proposing that students would be better off joining a trade school, don’t know what the hell they are talking about. It may be the right choice for some, (and I have also attended a trade school then turned that into an applicable degree); a traditional university education is still the path to a long run at success in life.
