The thing that bothers me about professional sports the past few decades is –not- the large salaries athletes are paid. What bothers me is the fact that the teams that supposedly represent the cities in which they play really say nothing about the cities or regions themselves. Most of the players are not FROM the cities in which they play and never lived there until a team paid them millions of dollars to “take their talents there”.

For EXAMPLE, no matter how well the Miami Heat may play, Lebron James was born and raised in the Cleveland, Ohio area. He was raised, coached and cultivated in the Cleveland community environment. He attended their schools, played on their playgrounds and grew up drinking the Cleveland water. No matter how many championships he -may- bring to south Florida by virtue of their luring him there, Miami will not have true cause to be proud.

On the other hand, Belle Glade & Pahokee, Florida, two very poor areas of Florida, produces more NFL stars than any other area in the country. It’s almost bizarre to see the veritable litany of NFL stars to emanate from there. In that case -THEY- have something to be proud of and many go on to play at Florida universities before being auctioned off to some other city/state to play professionally.

Pro sports are currently all an illusion that makes...

Vegas ain’t gonna be too happy. Luv it. Let both sides show what arrogant, selfish people they all are. It truly is time to put it to the test. Which one will blink? Obviously the players.

Think i say Tom Brady in Madison on TV.
.

Players are filthy rich, no need for a union when you sign individual contracts.

Don`t like it, there are other leagues to go play in.

The first thing they need to do is stop the taxpayer subsidies for stadiums.

It's time to END the Player's Union and REPAIR the NFL

I really don't sympathize with either side in the NFL - these are private businesses dealing with private employee unions. But I find the owners slightly more odious than the players this time - the owners are the ones requesting big changes in the agreement terms.

One of the owner demands is an 18 game schedule - they're reacting to the anger of season ticket holders (who are required to pay full price for two pre-season games every year) by diluting the regular season even more. Starters who would be sitting for those two pre-season games will now be on the field, increasing the likelihood that more will be injured heading into the playoffs and all will be more tired. It's a lousy idea, and it deserves to be defeated.

People complain about the salaries the players make, but any dollar not paid to the players ends up in "guess who's" pocket?

And while we’re fumigating the NFL, how ‘bout throwing all that pink crap away. It makes the NFL players look like a bunch of sissified, “anti-war” commie libs. Those pink mouth pieces, cleats and jock straps is a bit much.

The NFL owners are Socialists as they have an anti-trust exemption which protects them from competition in the marketplace and in most cases the taxpayer pays the costs of their stadiums.

I will stand with the players and not the Socialist NFL owners.

Agreed. The owners are scum and many are libs. There are no good guys in this. The NFL sucks and loves Obam. The players by in large are spoiled. TV is totally for hussein that beams this crap. F em after what they did to Rush.

I like Rush but he looks stupid pimping the NFL after they PAWNED him.

“Negros, Felons, and Liberals. No conservatives allowed. The NFL jumped the shark years ago.”

Please explain.

Here is what I would do as an owner, I would institute a union pay scale based on years of service. This would mean if you are a 10 year player like Tom Brady you make the same as a punter with 10 years of service. I would also change the draft to draft all the older players as cuts would be based on years of service so no rookie would make the team. This would be fun to see as over 66% of all money paid to players goes to the top 10% of the roster. This would pit 90% of the working families in football against the elite rich players. (sarcasim)

It's not the players' fault, it's the owner's fault. The owners want the players to play an 18-game season, reduce the rookie salaries, and basically want players to play for peanuts.

Football is not like baseball. Players have to train year-round, the average length of a player's lifespan is 3-5 years, and any injury sustained can basically kill your career.

So it's reasonable for players to form a union and owners should be ashamed of themselves for trying to squeeze more out of players when they themselves are billionaires and profiting from tax-payer funded stadiums.
