“Football is not like baseball. Players have to train year-round, the average length of a player’s lifespan is 3-5 years, and any injury sustained can basically kill your career.”
I already understand that but it’s hard to be sympathetic to their “plight”. I know there are pleanty of people who would like to work ONE year for the league minimum of $300-$800,000+ (depending on what year the player is in). Besides, no owner is forcing them to play football.
Exactly!
What do you mean "their plight?"
This is their trade, this is what athletes in that profession do. And since they're skilled playing football, they deserve to be well-compensated for it. That's called the free market.

Football involves extensive, year-round training, conditioning, and studying - and yes that includes the backups and the pine-sitters. It's not for the faint of heart. There's a reason why players are paid high - the sport is brutal and any injury can cut short your career - or your life even.
Besides, no owner is forcing them to play football.
And nobody is forcing owners to pay players gazillions of dollars either. These owners are fricking billionaires. A work-stoppage will NOT affect them. A sport like the NFL is perfect for a union because of the violent nature of the game.
What does it mean that the players’ association decertified?
Do teams come to agreements with individual players now?
Can the league now unilaterally extend the season to 18 games (provided they can find players willing to play that many games at whatever salary the player and team agree to?)
Obviously the salary cap, franchise player, blah, blah, blah is out the window...
The NFL players are the 1500 best football players on the planet who worked very hard, not unlike a doctor or lawyer, to develop their skills.
No one complains about the 1500 best doctors making a million dollars a year.
Why is it they complain about the top 1500 football players making that kind of cash?
And why is it so many here who claim to be conservatives support the NFL owners who are nothing but Socialists who have an anti-trust exemption and have the tax payer pay for their stadiums?
If you and I went into business and we were granted an anti-trust exemption and the tax payer paid for our offices and factory, we would also be billionaires.
A question I posted on another thread: Why would De Maurice Smith want the union decertified? Doesn’t this mean he no longer has a job?
Nice video. Thanks for posting.

As Jerry Seinfeld said, since the players and coaches and owners are always changing, and the only thing that doesn’t change much is the uniforms, we’re all basically rooting for laundry.
Better: End the NFL, AFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB. Put these spoiled prima donnas on to the streets and out of work. You know: “For the children.”
