The Education Of A Liberal Woman
Internet mass mailing since at least 2005

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very Liberal Democrat, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words redistribution of wealth.

She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

FATHER - DAUGHTER TALK

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and was very much in favor of the redistribution of wealth. She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the addition of more government welfare programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father.

He responded by asking how she was doing in school. Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.

Her father listened and then asked, "How is you friend Audrey doing?" She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus, college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties, and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over."

Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."

The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!"

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the Republican Party."

Trib, could you uncheck the EXCERPT check box and post that entire blog so we could read it?

Why read it?

This is a very old joke. Punchline has the father paying tuition money to someone else. Daughter objects. Father teaches her a lesson.

Been around for years.

Just like blogpimps.

what’s a “blogpimp”?

A pathetic wanker that posts a bitsy-bit here and expects
honest FReepers to click over to his blog (paying him a "hit")
in order to read the rest of the material he has plagiarized.

Blogpimps could post the full content here, but then they would not be paid-per-hit.

They USE you & ALL good FReepers as a revenue building service.

They are scum.

My story is real: My grand daughter considered herself a conservative on leaving high school then went directly into college. Came out of college a full on Liberal. Went on to graduate school and got even more left wing. A lot of my family is on Facebook and my grand daughter kept putting liberal crap on there so I started coming back at her. She removed me from her list now as she does not want her gramps telling her things she does not want to hear.

Gunner is right. We must only only excerpt stories from the New York Times, AP, MSNBC and, especially, the Las Vegas Review Journal.

This way when good and honest Freepers are used as a revenue source it's for people who hate our guts!

It's always been done this way and it must always continue!

Correct.
Legitimate sources, be they biased this way or that, are businesses.

They have staff, research, corporate expenses. They are legal entities.

Some snotty half-clad blogger that can’t write proper English
has no reason nor moral obligation to excerpt their “writing”.

A smarmy semi-literate blogpimp with the writing skills
of a peach-picker has no right to profit off of Free Republic.

Gunner, you didn’t just call MSNBC a legitimate source did you?

Gunner, you didn’t just call MSNBC a legitimate source did you?

They have lawyers.
They are a legal entity. SOMEBODY checks at least some of the facts.

Joe Blow blogger can write about giant squids eating Japan.

Are Joe Blow Blogger and the giant squids legitimate?

Can we at least get the squid story written in decent English?

MSNBC has an obligation to at least report a version of the truth.
Joe Schmoe Blogger can write any damned thing he likes.

How much of Japan have those squids eaten so far?

I don’t mind clicking on blog posts and giving them a “hit.” In fact, I’ll give them several if I like their writing. I suspect you are angry because you are too lazy to click on their link and want everything provided for you.

My point is that MSNBC -- and many if not most of the dinos -- use those lawyers, researches etc. to manipulate you. They are propagandist insulated by corporate protections. They lie with big words -- or at least with authoritative voices.

They are not to be trusted.

You are right about a lot of bloggers. A lot of them are quasi-literate loons. My view though is that the loons will out.

There are a lot of very good bloggers and, I think, they are the future of information.

And even the loons are better than MSNBC.

So why should we allow them to profit from excerpting here?
