From the video caption:
Seven false green energy job 'myths' are debunked. This video was produced by http:rev-up.org -- a site that provides teachers and students all the resources they might need for renewable energy education.
One blooper is near the end where she says "Three Georges (sic) Dam". Three Georges? Who are they?
So this is the kind of crap being used in schools?
I wonder how much tax dollars Rev-Up gets?
Apparently so, this is being shown in schools.
I wonder how the cartoonish hillbilly-like skeptics portrayed in the video go over in some parts.
STraight propaganda.
points I agree with:
* imported oil is a national security issue.
* nuclear is a good idea.
* acknowledging market forces as the main cost driver.
* increasing efficiency is a good idea, IF SUPPORTED BY MARKET FORCES.
points I disagree with:
* Anything mentioning ‘CO2’ without the word ‘irrelevant’ in the same sentence.
* No competent economic analysis of solar, i.e. what is the net present value of a solar installation over its lifetime, compared to other sources. She just says “once itstalled, it’s FREE!” Ha! Hang onto your wallet when you hear these people say “FREE!”
* Requiring utilities to buy a certain percentage from renewables.
* Anything mentioning ‘Bill Gates’ and referencing energy policy.
* Comparing IT research and development percentage to energy production research and development.
* ‘Smart meters’ which automatically shut off appliances during peak demand. You know these types are drooling over that prospect.
I actually wrote a paper on the myths of Green jobs.
My conclusion:
All the government directed Green policies in Spain and Germany, in particular, killed job growth. The ratio was for every Green job created, 1.83 jobs were destroyed. Plus, the public financed ROI on those policies was negative.
The only policy that supports job growth, energy preservation and reduces pollution is conservation and property rehabilitation.
In other words, if you do everything to prevent energy leakage and waste in buildings through proper insulation, energy management(turning off lights and computers), use energy saving light bulbs, have properly fitted doors and windows, and use natural lighting that saves more energy, saves more money and prevents more pollution than solar panels, driving Priuses and taking public transportation.
Look at all the "green energy" jobs here http://www.renewableenergyjobs.com/ !!!!!
