f First Lady Michelle Obama has her way, every public school cafeteria across this great nation will have a salad bar full of lettuce, carrots, and communism. The First Lady's Let's Move Salad Bars To Schools program aims to put 6,000 kid-sized salad bars in schools. Each salad bar costs $2,500, and the whole program costs $15 million. So on top of promoting a vegetable-y socialist agenda, they're also expensive! (Schools are being encouraged to raise part of the money themselves.) Big government run amock! The goal of course is to hoodwink children into eating their vegetables. >>>
The goal of course is to hoodwink children into eating their vegetables. According to Obama, "When [vegetables] are set up all pretty and nice like this you might want to try some and maybe try some things you've never had before, right?" Look out, public schools: Kids are going to demand their pizza and french fries. And then will come inevitable friots. You'd think child obesity was like a problem or something.

our kids are fat, and it’s pretty damn repulsive how big Americans have gotten.
This country cannot get rid of these socialists fast enough. The fools that voted for them should be fined, as a matter of American principle.
In my high school we had a salad bar, an italian bar, and the regular lunch line.
So, they want kids to eat their veggies but they wont let them grow them in their back yard.
Can we just impeach him and get this over with.
Yeah, but it’s cool for Michelle to fly her big fat ass to Chicago on AF1 for some pizza.
Dumb shitz actually think they can make a bunch of unsupervised kids eat their broccoli? Gimme a break.
So hamding them plates of vegetables to throw out will make them slimmer? I don't think so.
Or, maybe she should eat her lobster without butter!!!
Produce contracts awarded to FDA deemed safe farms only.
Was the salad bar in your school loaded with mayonnaise-based foods like tuna salad and potato salad, goldfish crackers, sunflower seeds and other high-calorie crunchy toppings, high-fat salad dressings, etc. like most salad bars are? A few tablespoons of regular salad dressing alone will do some serious calorie damage, i.e., “I’ll have some lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, and raw mushrooms topped with 1,000 calories worth of croutons and dressing.”
That's exactly what they think. It takes my breath away sometimes.
just think of the logistics of buying, moving, cleaning, preparing, and keeping refrigerated all of that fresh food.
I can see more kitchen help needed and refrigeration upgrades in a lot of already broke schools
Hard times are coming! Only those who stock up now have a chance of surviving.
Mrs. Obama has the right idea that it’s better for kids not to be obese. Mr Obama had the right idea that it would be desirable if health care could be more affordable for more people. But in both cases, the big government solution will not work. Remember the War on Poverty? Poverty won and look for fatness to prevail in the War on Obesity.
“I can see more kitchen help needed and refrigeration upgrades in a lot of already broke schools.”
And guess the immigration status of those newly-needed employees...
Yes.
Really, that is the only -- death dealing -- problem I see with the "idea."
Two of my five brothers are strict meat and potatoes guys. There's not much they do like. When they come visit we don't bother planning meals or buying extra groceries.
If they were still kids, they'd never go anywhere near that salad bar. They'd rather starve -- and they would, too -- before they'd touch a bit of lettuce or a chopped tomato.
Along with the chaos of these salad bars will be the food born diseases. Of course, the farmers who supply the produce will be under intense government scrutiny and blamed for some kid who brought something like hepatitis from home. It will require each school to provide salad bar monitors during the lunch periods. And the extra work required for cleanup will be costly The extra staffing will cost already money stretched school districts dearly.
High school students might manage a salad bar neatly. However, elementary kids would turn it into disaster.
You can have my Sloppy Joe, when you pry it from my cold-fat dead hands. Well, in my day we would have retaliated. LOL We always took sack lunches except on Sloppy Joe day.
Somehow I have made it to 63. When I think of all of the large Hershey chocolate bars and Cokes I consumed every day on my paper routes........ I guess I should already be dead.
Nope. They'll just dump it, then eat some really bad food out of a vending machine...and get fatter. All the while getting an excuse to avoid the discipline and exercise associated with phys-ed class.
How are the schools supposed to raise the funds themselves? Queen Michelle has outlawed bakesales at them.
So basically, they have inserted more government regulation and policies which makes things more expensive for schools to operate, but at the same time, reduced the ability of them fund these more expensive mandates.
Welcome to the democratic party.
What incredible timing she has:

Latest Terror Threat in US Aimed to Poison Food
CBS News ^ | 12-20-10 | Armen Keteyian
In this exclusive story, CBS News chief investigative correspondent Armen Keteyian reports the latest terror attack to America involves the possible use of poisons - simultaneous attacks targeting hotels and restaurants at many locations over a single weekend.
A key Intelligence source has confirmed the threat as "credible." Department of Homeland Security officials, along with members of the Department of Agriculture and the FDA, have briefed a small group of corporate security officers from the hotel and restaurant industries about it. ...
*snip*
The plot uncovered earlier this year is said to involve the use of two poisons - ricin and cyanide - slipped into salad bars and buffets. Of particular concern: The plotters are believed to be tied to the same terror group that attempted to blow up cargo planes over the east coast in October, al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Raw uncooked food, placed in uncovered open air tables in close proximity to 1,000 kids who have been picking their nose (and other things), stocked with Monsanto approved government regulated produce.
I think we'' pass on the lunch service thank you..............
The extent of my daily cuisine from the age of 12 to 22.
So I take it that you're in favor of having the federal government determine what schoolchildren will eat?
Geez, the constitution is DEAD, our freedoms are gone already!
Putting PE and recess back in the school day would be better.
I read the “Old Man and The Sea” by Hemmingway, when I was around 12. I gleaned a view of the working man’s diet as described in that novel. It’s what got me drinking coffee for breakfast. I would relive that cherished “tin can” of coffee to make the day new, with milk and sugar.
Spot on! I can see elementary students drenching their salads with salad dressing. Kraft Ranch Dressing has 148 calories for 2 tablespoons. With the other condiments (2 tablespoons sunflower seeds = 164 calories), one could easily bring the caloric count up.
I’m sure the lawyers will love salad bars in schools.
Wait until the lawsuits fly when the 1st school shuts down due to Salmonella.
Salad bars aren’t a bad idea really. Kids are getting fatter. Adults are getting fatter for lots of reasons. The only thing is, kids don’t like to eat what they don’t like. Maybe they’ll eat the stuff after a while, I don’t know. Until then, anyone care to guess how many tons of lettuce, tomatoes and carrots that’ll go in the garbage daily? Also, kids aren’t stupid; they pick up on hypocrisy. Barack is skinny, but eats what he likes. Michelle is rather plump with a big rear end, eats what she likes and it shows up a bit.
Salmonella is the least of concern. Wait until spinal meningitis breaks out. The brain swelling stuff takes a week or so to bloom.
The fact that salad bars are “expensive” is an understatement. Have you bought fresh vegetables at the grocery store lately?
This was the first question that came to my mind as well.
I and my wife both grew up in public schools; 2,000 miles apart. Both of us took our lunches to school in paper bags or lunch boxes. We ate the meal prepared at the cafeteria only occasionally; maybe a half a dozen times a year, that's all.
My lunch was one or two sandwiches (peanut butter w/ honey, or tuna fish, or deviled ham, or liverwurst), some cucumber slices or carrot sticks, some potato chips/shoestring or Cheezits, a piece of fruit, and a thermos bottle of milk or sweetened tea.
I was an urban youth---my wife grew up on a Midwest farm, but her sack or box lunch was very similar to mine. . . . except, she got more BBQ pork sandwiches and venison sandwiches, because her dad raised pork and hunted the deer in the back woods on the farm. I am still jealous!
Neither of our families had, what they call today, "disposable income." My family was definitely lower to middle middle class, and all my wife's folks' money was in the earth and in equipment.
I remember in the 4th grade, the school's "hot" lunch cost 35 cents, and a half pint of milk was another 5 cents. My folks thought 40 cents per day to be too high, and the lunch sent to school with me could be made then for much less than 40 cents. That was, of course, when a Snicker Bar was 7 cents. And sometimes, Mom threw a Snicker Bar in our lunch.
So, the only reason I see for Mrs. Obama's programs is to further entrench government and socialism.
Mmmmmm... communism, olive oil, nutmeg and aragula! What's not to like about that?
I won't hire fat people. They're slow and useless.
Go ahead and sue. I am willing to lose everything I have for the sake of not having to look at lardasses every day. BTW - avoid malls where Americanized sorta-ricans hang out.
I've turned down contracts just because the person with whom I was dealing was was so repulsively obese.
Stocky guys (genetics) work hard. Fat asses (Twinkies) which are something else entirely need to go away and die. Where's Darwin when you need him?
P.S. 90% of American chicks are fat slobs. Gents, get yourself a Russian or Ukrainian gal if you'd prefer not having to fight your way through 80 pounds of blubber to find the womanly bits.
15 mil my A$$, Do you know how expensive it would be to have 5 days of fresh veggies and fruit on a yearly basis???????
WAX PAPER! How did I forget that??? Our sandwiches and other items were also in wax paper.
We didn’t have much for store-bought sweets, but Mom made a batch of something every week from which things would end up in our bag lunches: Choco-chip cookies, brownies, oatmeal muffins, and many other things.
Oh, YEAH! And some people want Michelle’s plan? Are they that clueless?
Does this guy look like a fatass?

Do you want defend yourself against either China or Moohamed effin' bin Goathump with an army of these guys?
Or these?
Memories are great. We survived by the love of our parents and grandparents. I pray the children of the future will have fond family memories.
I’d rather be fat than shallow, mean, and obnoxious like you appear to be.
*I* am responsible for my children’s diet, not another government program. I’m not sure this is the right website for you.
No one has mentioned one important fact that the free lunch program is also being expanded, They have already got many on the FLP. If the child has ever been on food stamps, they must be put on Free Lunch. Every one will be on unemployment Benefits which will support our economy. Ask any one looking for a Christmas Job.
Yes, but have you ever looked at the calories in most salad bar salads?
That’s a good memory.
Memories.... I try to forget the bad ones and hang onto the good.
To think, I drank water from a garden hose and filled my mouth with as many sticks of Juicy Fruit gum that I could possibly stuff in there. Little did my generation know... we were all cheating death. ;>)
I am willing to run for public office on that platform - just to be the a-hole to at least get the debate started.
