Breaking: Tax Cut Bill Advances in Senate

The tax cut compromise reached by President Obama and Republicans has passed its first hurdle in the Senate. According to breaking news, the tax deal has gained the 60 votes it needed to advance in the Senate. This would pave the way for the bill's passing in only a day or two.

Despite the fact that the bill has now passed its first test, it has been met with some resistance by both Democrats and Republicans. Some Democrats argue that there should be no extension of tax cuts, while many Republicans believe that the extra spending in the bill would increase the deficit.

The compromise came after President Barack Obama compared Republicans to terrorists who were holding the middle class "hostage." After his political talking points, however, the President actually decided to try to work with Republicans instead of mindlessly bashing them.

they are saying that it costs about 900 billion... is that in lost revenue? more unemployment benefits?

How can a tax cut bill ‘cost’ something? pork?

Little noticed in 0bama’s hostage speech was his special message to al qaeda:

(paraphrasing) “All they need to do to get America to buckle is to take some hostages AND HURT THEM.”

A clear message that I assure you is not lost on them.

Its the wackos in the House that’ll kill this thing.

It needs to be killed and taken up again in January as a stand alone bill.

If the Pubbies got the message from November, they would CUT taxes instead of just maintaining the status quo.....though I won't hold my breath.

This bill didn’t need to be more than one or two sentences to the effect that tax rates as set in place by whatever bill it was will be extended for two years.

There should not have been a single penny of spending as part of this bill.

All I can say is I sure hope and pray the new group that comes in month or so from now shows more determination to cut spending. I want it done the other way this time, cut spending THEN deal with taxes, not the way it’s always been done.

Drop this thing, raise my taxes in January and get a real “negotiated” deal.

If Bill Clinton can tax me retro-actively then they can reverse my tax increase retro-actively.
