A Unionized TSA Will Make Our Airports Less Safe (Obama allowing unionizing)
Publius Forum ^ | 11/15/10 | Warner Todd Huston

Everywhere you turn the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) is getting lambasted. If it isn't people refusing to abide by TSA directions, it's stories of a "backlash against body scanners" because of the abusive treatment that TSA employees are doling out to travelers. People are becoming fed up with the whole edifice. But imagine how much worse this situation will get if the TSA is allowed to unionize?

Well, if Obama has his way this is exactly what will happen. Evidence his Federal Labor Relations Authority ruled last Friday that the TSA could, indeed, vote on union representation.

This decision opens the possibilities that the American Federation of Government Employees and the National Treasury Employees Union could vie to represent the 50,000 employees of the TSA.

Many TSA security officers have already joined one or another of these unions but law prohibits them from collective bargaining at this time. Perhaps early next year this new ruling will allow the TSA officers to choose which of the two unions will exclusively represent them....

Unions have been chasing TSA for quite some time.

SF airport has a private company doing their screening—guess why they get to do that? Because the company is union, of course.

A unionized TSA will become an even more permanent fixture in American airports, and have carte-blanche to further increase their intrusions into the lives of law abiding Americans.

This madness has got to stop. It’s way past time to remove any politician who goes along with this crap. Who works for whom here, anyway?

Liberal weenies like to blather on about how the reason why there are terrorists who want to kill us is because of how awful the US is. You know the whole “terrorist recruiting tool” idiocy.

Well a unionized TSA sounds to me like fabulous recruiting tool for enraged airline passengers. There will be fists a flying in the security line.

The Reuter’s poll is still working.

Will new security screenings affect your decision to fly?
Yes- 64,668 - 96%
No - 1,752 - 3%
Undecided - 986 - 1%
Total: 67,406

What’s the profit margin for the airlines? How many businesses, and travel locations will be affected by loss of revenue in this recovering economy?

“Zero just doesn’t know when to quit!”

He knows exactly what he is doing. He is working to destroy the country.

Maybe about the same number as will pick up business when people make different recreation and travel choices. A dollar spent locally is the same dollar as a dollar spent in Florida ... it just goes to a different recipient.

I was absolutely furious at the TSA employees the other day.

I was struggling to get a laptop on the belt (I am handicapped) and I was having a lot of difficulty. When I asked the two! employees standing there gabbing for a hand, their answer was, “It’s not that far. You can pick it up yourself.” I should say my handicap and difficulty was obvious. They then went back to their non-work related conversation.

I ended up at the doctors the next day.

I should have known they were getting unionized.

Get ride of the TSA, allow the airlines to use their own security.

That would be a Godsend in our area. I was thinking of vacation magnets that are already hurting, but you are right. Local is best!
Please come to Ft Sumner, New Mexico and visit The Billy the Kid museum!

For a taste of things to come, review the recent and not so recent history of the US Postal Service.

I’ve been warning of a Unionized TSA since the day of the announcement TSA was being created.

Unlike in Europe, Democrat-run Unions have no way to shut down the entire U.S. Economy on a whim.

THIS WILL PROVIDE THAT ABILITY!!!!

“Get ride of the TSA, allow the airlines to use their own security.”

As I have said from the beginning, security should be the responsibility of the AIRPORT, not the Airlines.

Every Airport has different security needs, and the Federal One-size-fits-all approach has been a disaster, especially for small airports.

Many U.S. Airports already had their own Police Departments on 9/11, that could have handled the job.
