Section 8 Housing

In case you did not know what section 8 housing is, the government pays a portion of a family’s rent (as much as 100% of it).  Almost all of these families are single Black females with 3 or more children (based upon applicants which I have seen in person—I can recall 1 white applicant and 1 Hispanic applicant over the past 10 or more years).  I have had periods of time when my only applicants were section 8 people.

Once these women get section 8 housing, they seek to hold onto it for as long as they can (20 or more years, if possible).  That means, no marriage, no taking a better job, no working 2 jobs, etc.  If you are careful enough, and keep your income low enough, then you can get the government to pay for 100% of your housing and food.  There is some possible corruption, because I have had section 8 people spoken to by the counselors to try to get them to take housing other than mine (although I have a perfect record with section 8 as a landlord).  From what I can figure out, there are builders building new houses specifically for section 8, that they will hold and lease out only to section 8 people (I suspect that there is some paying under the table, but that is only an unconfirmed suspicion of mine).  I have had some section 8 women turn up their noses at properties of mine because they were too old (“That house is 20 years old; no thank you”).

I have one very nice house which is huge (3600 sq ft) and half of the people who have called me on this house are section 8.  I am unaware of how many people are on section 8.  I know that for my rentals, about half of the people who call me (maybe a little less) are section 8 applicants.

Now, just because a person is section 8, it does not mean they are a bad person, trashy, or whatever.  If the government said, "This is money for you to get a nice house" you might be willing to take it too.  How many here have taken an FHA loan?  That is a government program.

I have had section 8 people who have trashed my house; and I have had section 8 people who have kept the house nice.  I have had section 8 people who have lied to me and the government; and others who have been above-board about everything.

How the government silently takes money from hard-working people and passes it to people who vote democrat.
More redistribution of wealth.

I detest section 8 housing. I did not scrimp and save to move to this neighborhood to have the malicious county move in the very people I escaped.

And to the writer of the blog. You are part of the problem, regardless of your last paragraph hand wringing.

And exactly what responsibility do Section 8 administrators have in all this mess? Since it is rather well known that things acquired for free are not highly valued, why are stricter controls imposed on Section 8 tenants. I believe that the landlord is not allowed to make regular inspections of the property they own.

For the most part, Section 8 housing turns any apartment complex into The Projects. When they aren’t paying hard earned money for rent, they don’t care what the property looks like, their kids run around unsupervised and their ghetto mobiles with music blasting can be heard as they drive into the area. We placed our daughter into a very nice apartment complex during college. She was paying $1200 for a two bedroom apartment with a garage, gated community fairly close to campus, then almost $700 for a single bedroom apartment without a garage. By the third year there were several residents who looked like they could be gang bangers and she would call me as she got out of her vehicle because she was afraid to walk by some of the guys. We got her out of there as soon as possible.

In section 8 housing the Government pays a p[ortion of the rent and the resident pays a portion.

The owners of Section 8 houses do not care if the resident pays their share or not, the government pays enough to keep them above board and if the resident pays. That is gravy.

Trust me, they did not pay for those wheels and paint jobs with money they earned flipping burgers at Mickey Dee’s

Fake nails, hair extensions/braids, cigarettes - then we subsidize food stamps to feed their brood of kids.

"the government"? Oh, "the taxpayers" is what they mean. OK, I get it now.

in NYC on the subway I see all that plus the latest in i-phones and ultra deluxe baby carriages and strollers. Not to mention the sneakers. It makes me wonder.

Drug money - baby daddies hand off a few bucks for luxuries knowing the government will cover all other expenses of their discarded offspring.

You would not believe the amount of dopedealing and prostitution those section 8 babymamas are into either...

Section 8 is a disaster and we have been paying for it for generations without any relief in sight.

All it does is encourage future generations to continue to live off those who are working and paying taxes.

Believe me, I am really hacked off right now about these parasites. My soon-to-be-ex-husband's girlfriend is living in HUD housing on disability and apparently she has been the one trying to convince him to go on disability for the last few years after he had bypass surgery. He kept bringing that idea up with me and I told him no, that he could even get a job in the Electrical Department at Home Depot if he felt he couldn't handle the physical labor on a jobsite (he can, but won't).

I just found out he is defrauding the unemployment office too, he had a job for two weeks and is not going to tell them about it. He was cut off at the beginning of June after being unemployed since last October. He "miraculously" found a job that same week and then when more benefits became available Aug 1st, he left that job and applied for benefits again. He thinks the Judge in divorce court is going to feel sorry for him because he is on unemployment and he won't have to pay anything.

Meanwhile, I am stuck with all of his bills and am trying to finance the mortgage in my own name. I just had my hip replaced in June, when he left me and moved in with her the day after I got home. However, I had disability insurance through my job, which I have held for 24 years. He says that I should not drag her butt into court on adultery charges because "she is disabled and living in HUD housing"...freaking boo-hoo, too bad.

I don't qualify for any assistance nor would I take any, I am even going to have to dip into my 401(k) for the down payment on the house. Arrrrrrggggghhhh! I despise these parasites!

Disclaimer: Not all Section 8/HUD users are parasites, but there sure are more of them than the honest folks!

Getting rid of that bum was a good thing. What a low life. Now you go find yourself a nice hard working Christian man and live happily ever after. I thank God everyday that my sorry ex husband split on me because I married the greatest guy in the world who is successful and a better father and provider to my kid than her real father.

Sometimes we never know how God works, but have faith because He has something better in store for you.

I once lived in a townhouse community. Adjacent to this community was an apartment complex which was dedicated to Section 8 people. The apartments and grounds were filthy...and dangerous. We heard that a single cop would not go on that property, even in his squad car. They insisted on having a partner with them.

And that remark by the author about “How many here have taken an FHA loan? That’s a government program.” Hey bub, FHA programs are just loan guarantees. You pay them back. Section 8, no, you don’t pay them much if any. World of difference.

Section 8 was designed to keep gov’ts from getting in the messy business of being a landlord. Keeps the lawsuits away, too. By transferring payments to the property owner, the idea is subsidized rentals will be more spread out than traditional ‘projects’.

The problems arise with subsidy applicant fraud and not adjusting the Section 8 reimbursement to reflect the real market price. I believe they are staving off a further RE crash by providing an artificial ‘bottom’ in rental prices.

And, those who invest in these sort of properties can make money...the real question is ‘Should you take money from taxpayers to subsidize your business endeavors?’

You left off Pot, Meth, Liquor, and a whole slew of other vices that some in Sec. 8 housing spend their $ on...

True, but some could argue an addiction to those things, while I don’t think hair or nails would qualify... ;^)
