How the government silently takes money from hard-working people and passes it to people who vote democrat.
More redistribution of wealth.

I detest section 8 housing. I did not scrimp and save to move to this neighborhood to have the malicious county move in the very people I escaped.

And to the writer of the blog. You are part of the problem, regardless of your last paragraph hand wringing.

And exactly what responsibility do Section 8 administrators have in all this mess? Since it is rather well known that things acquired for free are not highly valued, why are stricter controls imposed on Section 8 tenants. I believe that the landlord is not allowed to make regular inspections of the property they own.

For the most part, Section 8 housing turns any apartment complex into The Projects. When they aren’t paying hard earned money for rent, they don’t care what the property looks like, their kids run around unsupervised and their ghetto mobiles with music blasting can be heard as they drive into the area. We placed our daughter into a very nice apartment complex during college. She was paying $1200 for a two bedroom apartment with a garage, gated community fairly close to campus, then almost $700 for a single bedroom apartment without a garage. By the third year there were several residents who looked like they could be gang bangers and she would call me as she got out of her vehicle because she was afraid to walk by some of the guys. We got her out of there as soon as possible.

Blows my mind to drive by Sec. 8 housing and see cars with expensive custom paint jobs and wheels that cost $thousands...

In section 8 housing the Government pays a p[ortion of the rent and the resident pays a portion.

The owners of Section 8 houses do not care if the resident pays their share or not, the government pays enough to keep them above board and if the resident pays. That is gravy.

the government pays a portion of a family’s rent (as much as 100% of it).

"the government"? Oh, "the taxpayers" is what they mean. OK, I get it now.

You would not believe the amount of dopedealing and prostitution those section 8 babymamas are into either...

Section 8 is a disaster and we have been paying for it for generations without any relief in sight.

All it does is encourage future generations to continue to live off those who are working and paying taxes.

I once lived in a townhouse community. Adjacent to this community was an apartment complex which was dedicated to Section 8 people. The apartments and grounds were filthy...and dangerous. We heard that a single cop would not go on that property, even in his squad car. They insisted on having a partner with them.

And that remark by the author about “How many here have taken an FHA loan? That’s a government program.” Hey bub, FHA programs are just loan guarantees. You pay them back. Section 8, no, you don’t pay them much if any. World of difference.

Section 8 was designed to keep gov’ts from getting in the messy business of being a landlord. Keeps the lawsuits away, too. By transferring payments to the property owner, the idea is subsidized rentals will be more spread out than traditional ‘projects’.

The problems arise with subsidy applicant fraud and not adjusting the Section 8 reimbursement to reflect the real market price. I believe they are staving off a further RE crash by providing an artificial ‘bottom’ in rental prices.

And, those who invest in these sort of properties can make money...the real question is ‘Should you take money from taxpayers to subsidize your business endeavors?’
