First Family Leaves Lasting Mark On Some In Bar Harbor

The First Family's weekend getaway in Bar Harbor ended on Sunday as Air Force One took off a little after 10:00 in the morning. For the folks around the Bar Harbor area things have started to return to normal.

Matthew Schneider, the General Manager at the Qarterdeck restaurant, says he's already looking ahead to the rest of the summer. "It's gonna be business as usual," he says. "We have a big cruise ship coming in tomorrow. 2200 people coming off that boat. Our normal everyday tourists are here, yeah it's back to business as usual."

But for some of the people around here the first family's visit has left a long lasting impression. Mark Currier had been waiting tables at Stewman's Lobster Pound in downtown Bar Harbor for less than a week when the Obama's were seated in his section on Saturday. "I had about 15 minutes notice he was coming in," he says, "I was like this is unreal right now. I can't believe the president is at my restaurant and that I'm gonna be waiting on him."

The president and first lady ordered lobster while their daughters Sasha and Malia had shrimp. "He ate the whole thing. He knew exactly how to crack it and everything," says Currier." And the big question how good of a tipper is the president? "He was pretty good says Currier with a chuckle.

The Obama's certainly made the most of their weekend, seeing just about all that MDI had to offer. "They were out in public," says Shneider, "a lot of people didn't think they were going to be. They were out having ice cream at the ice cream places, having dinner at the local restaurants, it was a fun weekend for them and I think for us in town."

While President Obama and his family are gone the impact they've had on this small community will hopefully reverberate for a long time to come. "We were on the cover of every newspaper in the world this weekend," Schneider says.

I thought all the seafood was going to be poisonous for generations and entire species were going to go extinct because of the oil leak.

Which is why the President said he would not rest until the hole was plugged.

Years ago the myrtle beach there was a whole big group of us (three families) and we went to a place that had just opened that very night. Being a young child at the time I decided on a corndog and fries. The adults ordered various chicken dishes including an uncle who got lobster. Turns out that night they had run out of corndogs and the manager came out and told us as a result the whole check was free.

I bet it would have tasted better if the taxpayers of the United States had paid instead of the owner though.

1. 2004. Went to Ontario. 2. Ate lobster on vacation in 1974 on Cape Cod with people who had a cottage there.

Tee hee...giggle giggle. "..and everything..." Gag.

News flash, Mr. Currier: I know, like, you want to spoon with Obama, and everything, but that tip, came out of your pocket, dumbass.

I doubt there are that many conservative bulimics, but if one was binging on lobster that day...

As I understand it, this is the 7th vacation for this jackass since becoming messiah and chief. Tells us of his work ethic, but we shouldn't complain. It means he isn't there busily making things worse.

Ok, I did go away over the weekend for my husband’s birthday (minus kids) and I had a steak and lobster tail dinner last night (not him, he only had steak). It was a splurge, as we don’t usually do that kind-of thing. No ice-cream was consumed, though.

Ok, if the visit just happened this weekend, how does the reporter know it left a long lasting impression?

Why is he so skinny if he eats like a king/queen on OUR dime????

MUST be bulimic-—gotta keep that shape for all his male lovers!

Somehow, I LOVE the mental picture of the “Won” throwing up in the toilet....to keep his girl y shape, ya know.

Lobster’s been cheaper than steak some weeks out here. Of course, with beef, you don’t have a shell to discard.

As for vacation ... What’s that?

I know Mark. He comes from a good, solid family who are not wild eyed liberals. They live nearby me in FL. They are from the Northeast and he happens to be there working this summer. His parents are great people and he is an intelligent, quiet young man. I am happy for him that he wasn’t serving Hillary or he wouldn’t have gotten any of our money back.

Our president is growing up so fast. Next thing you know, he won’t need his sippy cup.

They could’ve “left a lasting impression” too down on the Gulf Coast.

But no, the political elites are too good to mix with the struggling, hard working common folk.

Just like the Obamas cheapass charitable contributions, this says who they really are.
