Mitt Romney, Ron Paul top 2012 Presidential Straw Poll at SRLC

Results are in from the Southern Republican Leadership Conference 2012 Presidential Straw Poll. Here are the top four:

439 Mitt Romney

438 Ron Paul

330 Sarah Palin

321 Newt Gingrich

Fox News' Carl Cameron just reported that Romney supporters were "handing out gifts" to attendees, and that Ron Paul sold cut-rate tickets to the event on his website. So, considering that, I would say Palin and Gingrich made pretty good showings.

These straw polls have become completely useless and they need to just omit them. If they do that, Ron Paul and Mitt Romney will stop paying to send their people there.

“So, considering that, I would say Palin and Gingrich made pretty good showings.”

Pretty sad. Does not bode well for the future when hand-outs win over common sense.

If Mitt Romney is the choice then it’s the same ol’ RINO party, not republican party. Heaven help us!

Haven’t republicans learned anything at all from the Tea Party or are they really that stupid?

All the more reason not to support the OP(formerly the GOP).

From the other thread:

— Bought —— Votes

Paul -— 800 —— 438
Romney — 400 —— 439
Palin -— 000 —— 330
Gingrich — 000 —— 321

Do the math. Romney got 39 votes that weren’t bought. Paul bought votes for people who voted for others, so he really got NO votes. Palin won with 330 non-purchased votes and Gingrich has established himself as the establishment candidate who is next in line.

I have always said that a third party would be the kiss of death for America, and a wet dream for Obambie and the Marxist.
After reading this post, however, I am starting to have second thoughts.
This is just sickening... America is DEAD.

The place looked like Romney election headquarters, and Paul bought out 800 ticks. "Evangelicals for Romney" handing out Mitts books and trinkets (piggybanks and buttons).

You can tell the Paul supporters outside where the people enter the building trying to vie for all the attention they can get.

Well said. These sentiments should apply to every canididatebot out there. The freaking election is years away and nobody knows who will rise, so I wish the Palinbots, Romneybots, Paulbots, and Sasquatchbots would shut up and quit taking candidate insults so personally.

Relax. Paul helped pay for 800 people to attend. That means he didn’t even get the votes of 362 people he paid for to be there!

Imagine that, the two that bought blocks of tickets and give them away to people in vote in the straw poll...won.

And one of em wasn’t even in attendance! Wow.

Think about it, Ron Paul supporters are mostly 18-30 somethings. Handouts are a way of life for them, sad to say.

Republicans want Romney, then it’s time for a “Conservative party”. How does Mike Pence/Rick Perry (C) sound? I WILL NOT vote for Romney.

Sarah's speech yesterday should put an end to that. She's solidly in the Republican camp and intends to work to put the Republican party on a path so that Republicans, Reagan Democrats and independents (who make up the tea party) can support a Republican candidate. Whether it's her or someone like Mike Pence or Paul Ryan or even Haley Barbour, is irrelevant as long as that energy is directed toward a figure who can energize the electorate by promising to do what is possible to roll back big government. And it won't be Mitt or Huckabee or even Newt who will do it.
