U.S. Representative Charles Rangel announced today that he sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi asking for a leave of absence from his post as chairman of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee.
Rangel, a Democrat from New York, declined to give details as to what prompted his decision to relinquish leadership of the panel, which also has jurisdiction over Social Security, trade and Medicare. Rangel was admonished for breaking House rules on accepting gifts.

This morning, my local newspaper quotes Rangel as saying that he always intended to step aside, that all of this proves his total exoneration, and that it is all political.
Voted out? He should be kicked out. Tom DeLay was run off because of a partisan witchhunt initiated by the prissy Chris Bell (a disgruntled Democrat who lost his seat to a black Democrat through redistricting in Texas).
That case STILL has not been brought to trial. Instead Ronnie Earle, the corrupt partisan prosecutor, is running for office in Texas this election season.
I forgot, what happened to Mark Foley, anybody know?

Mark Floey just last week opened a consignment shop in West Palm Beach.
He was hounded out of office for tons less than many Dems were and are guilty of.
He was a well respected congress critter who did a good job for his constituents. He just had a crush on some young page.

Charles Rangel (D-Dominican Republic) replaced Adam Clayton Powell (D-Bimini) claiming he was the honest and ethical candidate! Maybe he was 40 years ago.

The news states Rangel is only taking a leave of absence not giving up his office completely.
He is only waiting until the talk has died down & back with Ms. Nancy he will be making more dirt piles...
Thanks, it was a rhetorical question. He was also found innocent of all the donks charges, something I doubt will happen to Rangel
