Not sure the point of this ad. All I can come up with is a weak attempt at humor. Here is an interesting comment I ripped from Youtube
*I dont think some of you get it. This is Audi saying, Look, if you eco-hippies want everything to be environmentally-friendly, here you go. Clean Diesel. But were gonna make fun of you and were gonna continue to sell R8 V-10s forever.

all i could think was that is what the Tree huggers want. They were trying to be funny but it seems that it was closer to reality.
I didn’t find the ad lighthearted or amusing at all.
There are too many people who think that “the green police” is a good idea, for real.
If it upset you, then it did its job. Too many people laugh off the tree huggers. this ad showed what could happne. They may have meant it to be funny, but it was dang serious.
Don’t forget, people are talking about it . . . making the ad a win.
It came across as more true than funny. It came across as green piety.
It was a DUMB ad. Audi, being Germans, ought to know how a police state operates. They shouldn’t use it to try to sell cars.
I hope Cheap Trick got paid.
Too bad they didn’t have a Toyota Pious with a jammed accelerator running everybody down.
‘Greener than thou’
It was a funny ad. Satire. Like what Rush does.
secular piety, it is what the left is all about. Whomever is more sensitive is more holy. Think about it..,. Save the whales.... oh did that.... No more nukes!.... oh Reagan did that....Save the dolphins..... drrr they did that...
We need something so big that is immeasurable to save....
Save the planet. We will make scientists the priests, al gore the pope and control doctrine through grants and research.
Tah dah!
Not only did they get paid, they went back in the studio to re-record “Dream Police” to “Green Police”. http://www.cheaptrick.com/green-police-super-bowl-ad-by-audi-is-fueled-by-cheap-trick-track-now-available-to-download
As a life-long CT fan, I think it sounds just as good, if not better than the original version.
And just as most CT songs are tongue-in-cheek, this one too, follows the same suit.
Bill - they persecute me right here in Morton, Illinois!
I’m concidering a Jetta TDI for my next vehicle.
As for example, in the ad, where they set up roadblocks on the highway, forcing thousands of cars to idle uselessly while spewing out carbon monoxide, in the hopes of finding am occasional inefficient engine.
It wasn’t well done.
I like the new “curly” lights, with my stash of incandescents I will make money for a couple of years at least. Home Depot had 6 60 watt bulbs for $.66 this weekend. I am going back tomorrow, to see if they have replenished the stock.
I agree. If this is the future, I don’t like it. I hope people see it and it scares the @#$@#$ out of them.
Interesting that all the hard lefties love it. They think it shows how "stupid" people are to worry about enviro-fascism by allegedly making fun of it. I think it shows their wet-dream future and it's a little too close to home for comfort.
And what's the message? It's "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em." "Go green" and give up your freedoms to avoid enviro-fascist persecution and ridicule.
