O M G — Rickles, Sinatra, Angie Dickenson (in her prime), GEORGE BURNS, Caroll O’Connor (also in the prime of his career)!

What a gold nugget!

Did Sinatra really shift toward the GOP after JFK snubbed him or something? He was a Wallace in ‘48 commie at one point.

Well, Frank was raised a Dem. His mother was, IIRC, a precinct Captain for the Dem machine in Hoboken. I don’t know at what point (if any) when he became a Republican. The JFK snub was hurtful to him, obviously (but the Kennedys used and then discarded “The Rat Pack” — more odiously ordering Sammy Davis, Jr. not to marry May Britt ahead of the ‘60 general election. Sammy knew the canonization of the Kennedys and the Dems was bull$hit, one reason he was so easily able to endorse Nixon in ‘72, although was ill-prepared to deal with the hysteria his endorsement caused in the Black community). If you remember, the excuse was made that it “looked bad” for JFK hanging out with Frank (read: Mafia) and he chose to go with vacationing with the respectable Republican household of Bing Crosby and his brand-spanking-new-hot-wife and kids.

As far as I know, I think Frank didn’t endorse anyone until Reagan (at least for President), and I do remember a split between him and one of his daughters publicly in ‘92 when he endorsed Papa Bush and she endorsed the creep from Arkansas. If Frank saw what was in the WH today, it would make him sick.

Kennedy wanted Davis told not to marry a white woman? What a profile in courage. Archie Bunker would have offered up Gloria! ;)

So Bing Crosby was a Republican huh. Speaking of him I just saw the Star Trek TNG episode where his granddaughter was killed off like a common redshirt by some late 80’s special effects.

It was Joe, Sr. that gave the order (the boys could’ve just as easily told pop to “Stuff it”), they thought it might offend the bigot vote (which were used to voting Democrat). Yeah, Bing was a Republican, but as a person, he apparently wasn’t the nicest guy in the world. He supposedly treated his first family like crap, was violent towards his sons (all 4 of his sons from that marriage are dead, 2 committed suicide — one son wrote a book saying he was the male version of Joan Crawford), and his wife died during the marriage. He supposedly harbored enough guilt that after he remarried, he treated his second family and three kids all in a completely different way (that second family was the setting for domestic bliss that JFK went out to spend time with, none of the dysfunction of the first one).

Denise, yeah, she was Gary’s daughter (Gary was one of the two that committed suicide). She was not a “legit” kid, Gary having knocked up her mom during a brief fling (Denise is older than Bing’s children by the second wife), and then right after he went and married a Vegas showgirl. Her mother made sure she was named a Crosby. You were probably too young to remember that ep of TNG when she was killed off at the time, it was a pretty shocking end for a major character (and meaningless, which made it even moreso), since the ep was fairly mediocre. Although, as she put it herself, it took killing off her character to give her better scripts on the show (such as the excellent “Yesterday’s Enterprise” and her stint playing her own half-Romulan daughter, nevermind the unlikelihood that a coupling between a dark, green-skinned Romulan and a human wouldn’t produce a blonde !).

That was great tv. I don’t think the audience could stop laughing when Sammy planted one on Archie. Totally unexpected.

My favorite was when Archie asked Sammy, “Do you take cream and sugar in your eye?”

Back in da day Reagan was FDR Democrat I think with Frank Sinatra he didn’t like how Demos turn out so he became Republican even Ronnie once said I didn’t leave Democratic party

Democratic party left me
