How To Survive The Coming Global Economic Collapse
Henry Blodget
Nov. 20, 2009, 10:10 AM
The following excerpt is from the blog "Surviving In Argentina," by Fernando Ferfal Aguirre.
Ferfal lived through Argentina's economic implosion in 2001. Here, he shares some of his secrets to survival.
So, guys, things dont look good.
It pains me to see America going through this and the consequences it will bring.
These are critical days. Now is when well get a better picture of how bad things will actually get, how long until we see the economy back on its feet. Instead of trying to guess what will happen, let's go through some things you should to right now, if you havent taken care of them already.
First, how about what NOT to do?
*Dont open your big mouth!
Its ok that you feel all nice and warm about the 1/5/whatever year food supply you already have, but theres no need to talk about it with the guys at work, the neighbors, friends or even family that is not directly related.
Other than my wife and kids, these are things that we simply do not talk about with people that know us, know our faces, names and know where we life.
Next thing you know someones knocking on your door, asking for favors you simply cant afford.
Not long ago a friend asked if I could lend him a gun for self defense yes, right.
Here, the owner of the gun is responsible for it and is not allowed to lend it to other non licensed persons. Other than my brother, Im not giving a gun away to just anyone.
*Dont waste your money!

The Modern Survival Manual: Surviving the Economic Collapse
By coincidence, I am reading this book right now. It's the best and most practical survival book I've read yet. It provides lessons for living through a "grid up" economic and social collapse, like that experienced in Argentina in 2001-2002. It's not about surviving a TEOTWAWKI grid-down post-apocalypse situation, living in a hidden fortress in the mountains, while fighting off radioactive cannibal zombie bikers.
It's aimed more toward a situation I think is at least 50-50 likely to occur in the USA. Highly recommended!!!
Yup. I don't want to go there.
Thank you.
Yep that’s the guy..........
I read that blog back when this was first posted. Good stuff.
I just finished reading FerFal’s book. It’s worth it’s weight in gold. I consider it a view into our immediate future: a grid-up economic collapse, where the govt is corrupt, inefficient and ruthless....but it’s still there.
Meaning, they won’t be able to protect you from bands of armed home invaders. BUT, if you shoot a robber, they will still eventually arrive, and may charge you with homicide.
That assumes they're still able to do it.
LOL
We've been following a lot of his advice.
He mentions in his blog about the one thing he missed having during their meltdown...a portable generator.
We now have a propane powered one.
Gasoline may be a problem, but I keep 30 gallons or so treated with Sta-Bil in the shed and rotate it through the year so it's as fresh as possible. I haven't noticed any trouble with the stuff I've stored almost a year.
Staples, staples, staples and FIFO. Flour, rice, beans, yeast, sugar, and cooking oil....
You know the drill.

We have been looking at generators and trying to figure out a good one to buy. We live out in the country and have propane heat and thought about that kind of generator. Do you like it?
Yep, we know that drill.
Propane ones are harder to find (the large full house ones use propane or CNG) but, propane doesn’t go bad and has fewer emmissions.
We’ve only started it a couple of time but, it seems to work fine.
You can get a kit (or buy one that uses multiple fuels) that allows you to use propane in a gas powered unit.
We used this company:

Thanks for the info.
