CHICAGO (AP) — Nearly half of all U.S. children and 90 percent of black youngsters will be on food stamps at some point during childhood, and fallout from the current recession could push those numbers even higher, researchers say.
The estimate comes from an analysis of 30 years of national data, and it bolsters other recent evidence on the pervasiveness of youngsters at economic risk. It suggests that almost everyone knows a family who has received food stamps, or will in the future, said lead author Mark Rank, a sociologist at Washington University in St. Louis.

The Democrat plan: Make everyone dependant on gubmit handouts.
There are some schools that give free meals to all students.
Imperial Rome handed out bread and provided free entertainment ...... so the population would not revolt.

Sounds like those stories you hear about half of marriages end in divorce. Half the marriages end in divorce because of the minority who engage in “serial” marriages, a la Liz Taylor. Probably have kids whose family consistently go on and off food stamps over time making it appear “half” of kids will be on the program.
This does not surprise me. I was at our polling place recently and all the kids were hispanic talking in Spanish.
BS...someone is playing loose with the facts.
I stand in awe of the food stamp program.
I work, my wife works, we have a house and car payments we make; we pay our taxes, we try to do the right thing ....
But I swear, I see food stamp recipients buying better food than we buy for ourselves. Where I buy cheap cuts of meat; I see them loading down with roasts. Where I buy generic soda, I see them buying the big cases of Coke and Pepsi products.
I guess I’m just a racist for complaining. Maybe I should just shut up and get a second job.

I have exactly see what you are talking about. I saw some nicely dressed lady yaking away on a nice cell phone buying expensive food with food stamps then driving away in a $30K car.

There is no asset test anymore. Not surprising the outcome as a result of the 2008 Farm Bill. Basically, if you don’t have a medium-up income, you are eligible. Adults will generally have seek-work requirements.
Seen the same thing too, except these moochers drove off in an SUV.
The state likes to rape fathers to give to the mothers. So I wouldn't be surprised to see more adult men on food stamps because of divorce. But not kids.
But I did see this coming. I told my brother last week that half the country would be on welfare before Obama is done. The attack on business is filtering down to the kids.
So be it.
My retired deaf uncle was struggling to get by on his Social Security. We applied for him to get food stamps. He was turned down.
