SNOWBALLS IN HELL!!! Reporter Admits Press Treated Palin Horribly
Politics Daily/The LID ^ | 7/10/09 | The Lid

Whether you like her or hate her you have to admit that the treatment Sarah Palin received in the press has been unfair and unprofessional. So its no surprise that one of the reasons that Sarah Palin gave for her resignation last week was the horrible attacks she and her children have received from in the press. These attacks were not based on policy, from the very beginning they were personal. Here teenage daughter's pregnancy became press fodder, she was accused of not being the mother of her own child and Fox News token liberal Alan Colmes claimed that Sarah Palin's prenatal neglect caused her son to be born with downs syndrome.

Even after the election, when Palin went back to Alaska the personal attacks of the Press continued. At least one reporter is feeling remorse. Carl Cannon, a former White House correspondent says:

In the 2008 election, we took sides, straight and simple, particularly with regard to the vice presidential race. I don't know that we played a decisive role in that campaign, and I'm not saying the better side lost. What I am saying is that we simply didn't hold Joe Biden to the same standard as Sarah Palin, and for me, the real loser in this sordid tale is my chosen profession.

Unfortunately it is too late the election is over, but maybe it can change things for the future. Below is Cannon's total "confession":

The hateful left went so far as to burn down her church, for God’s sakes. We have a serious enemy, here, folks.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Don't believe any of this new-found remorse: magnanimity costs you nothing when you've destroyed your opponents.

Lot's of “wildlife” magazines were bad mouthing Sarah Palin BEFORE, AND WHILE SHE was Gov. of Alaska. Defenders of Wildlife and other publications were playing up the “cruelty” of aerial wolf hunts, caribou hunting, etc. I am not a big fan of hunting, but I do know that hunts are necessary at times. I know a woman who had an abortion who was circulating the horrors of hunting to her friends (including myself) on line. How is that for being a hypocrite?

Anyone who eats meat and condemns hunting is a hypocrite. They are a triple dog hypocrite if they support abortion but oppose hunting.

What the he** does he mean by this? They didn't hold Bozo to the same standards as they did Palin, forget Biden. They acted as if Palin was running for President and almost totally dropped any news about McCain during that time.

This sounds a lot like something that his father, Lou, would have written. After spending weeks of lambasting Reagan for anything wrong anywhere in the world, Lou Cannon would issue a soul-cleansing piece where he would mention that maybe he was a little tough on Reagan. The irony is that if Ronald Reagan hadn't become a national player, Lou Cannon would have probably never become a national journalist.

I'd be far more impressed with Carl Cannon if this attitude would have been displayed during the campaign. Was it just now that Cannon realized that Alan Colmes, Bill Maher, and others should have been called out for their reprehensible statements? Of course, it would have taken courage then but it would have been the right thing to do. While it might look gracious, this revelation is a little hollow now since it entails no costs.
