Put a lock on your underwear drawer….the census questions are coming

Bull’s-eye central is afoot. The thousands of volunteer census workers assigned to get answers to questions from every household in the country has launched. How old are you and members of your household? What is your religion? Have you ever been on food stamps? What is your phone number? What is your race?

Magically we have ACORN as one of the groups at the center of collecting data nationally. Don’t you just want a stranger from ACORN coming to your door, saying you have to answer personal, intrusive and unconstitutional questions for the first time in our census history? According to Representative Michele Bachmann, she has stated publicly:

“I know for my family the only question we will be answering is how many people are in our home. We won’t be answering any information beyond that, because the Constitution doesn’t require any information beyond that.”

Census bureau spokesperson Shelly Lowe didn’t waste any time taking Bachmann to the woodshed by reminding her of a portion of the U.S. legal code saying that if anyone over 18 refuses to answer any of the questions asked by census takers you can be fined up to $5,000.

$5000 is a lie. Its $100.

And that fine could even be questionable in court. (Well... a proper constitutionally oriented court)

I had a mid-census update battle on this a couple of years ago - they sent me the “long form” - how many indoor toilet's, who
s home during the day - who goes to work etc (great data for house burglars, etc)

I kept refusing to answer anything other than what is required by the US Constitution and told them so in writing...

Finally I copied my congressman Ron Paul on the communications to them and suddenly they backed off and gave up...

Glenn Beck had a segment today on the questions. He reported on one of the questions being how long it takes to get to work and when do you leave for work each day? Well...went to this site

http://2010.census.gov/2010census/pdf/2010_Questionnaire_Info_Copy.pdf

and do not see the questions Beck is referring to.

Anyone have other info on the forms they are going to use

They are going to be disappointed. I'm old enough I don't wear underwear, and I converted that drawer to storing Hoppes #9 and cleaning kits.

I figure an appropriate answer to questions like "How many guns do you have?" is "Hell, who keeps count at my age?"

I am rather young, actually,. ;)

THe fine was raised - however they have never taken anyone to court to enforce the supposed penality

As far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't feel secure telling some unemployed stranger that is temporarily making $12 an hour to find out what my income is and what time I leave to go to work.

Yes that was one of the questions that they tried to “test” on me a couple of years ago - not everyone gets the same exact form or set of questions

Mr. EGPWS how many guns do you own and when do you commute to work?....

Some day, we will understand once again who works for who.

If not, we are sooooo screwed as individuals toting freedom.

When they ask the race question - we should all answer “human”. And nothing more.

As I understand it, the constitutional question is not really cut and dried, since the Constitution pretty much says that it’s up to congress to set the terms of the census, and that has historically been the practice.

The census must be taken once every ten years, and its basic purpose is to count people, but the Constitution does not set specific limits to the kind of information that can be gathered. Presumably anything reasonable—which is open to interpretation. But I would think that the burden of proof would be on anyone who argued that congress had exceeded its authority to set the terms.

It’s bad enough that ACORN will be collecting such information, but there is also going to be boom in census taker impersonators.
