Fox News launches letter campaign to apologise via British Embassy for Barack Obama's "diss"
Telegraph Blogs (U.K.) ^ | March 11, 2009 | Toby Harnden

On the Right and Left, the saga of Gordon Brown's Washington visit continues to run and run here in the US. Fox News's Glenn Beck has just upped the ante by displaying the address of the British Embassy on screen and urging his 2.2 million viewers to write to tell the British people: "They don't suck. We appreciate them." Or something like that.

At the liberal end of the spectrum, Jon Stewart of the Daily Show is joining in the mirth. Like Beck, he gets much mileage out of the Obama present of a box set of DVDs, in return for Brown's HMS Gannett pen holder, HMS Resolute commissioning certificate and seven-volume first edition biography of Churchill.

Beck solemnly calls Brown's offerings "unique and priceless historical gifts". Stewart describes them with mock reverence as "thoughtful, unique, entrenched with layers of deep meaning that connect Barack Obama's ancestral past to the lineage of the presidency interwoven with the centuries-old special relationship between the United States and Britain - it is a gift wrapped inside a present stuffed inside a thoughtful gesture".

Here's Beck, who interviews the Heritage Foundation's Nile Gardiner. The Embassy address comes at the end of the clip: (clip found at link)

And here's Stewart, who also has a great riff on how Brown shamelessly appropriated Obama's language, laughing at the Prime Minister for trying to "horn in on Obama's mojo" and acting like a "Barack Obama cover band - Gordon Hopeful and the Yes We Can Five": (clip found at link)

I don’t think a letter campaign is as meaningful as the source of problem apologizing.

Obama is solely responsible for his actions.

Period.

If I could knit I would knit a British flag :-). Otherwise I am not sure what to send other than I know I will NOT be sending a box set of US DVDs unusable and unviewable in the UK.

All these conservatives who want to “apologize” on Obama’s behalf is as stupid as today’s government “apologizing” for slavery that was abolished 140 years ago.

Remember: Gordon Brown SUPPORTED Obama’s campaign for President. I certainly didn’t. I have nothing to apologize for.

If the U.K. has now soured on Obama, perhaps they and the rest of Europe should apologize for urging Americans to elect an unqualified marxist and claiming it would “heal our relationship with the world”

the fuhrer grabs a few bucks on Amazon at the WH gift shop to insult our closest allies, hitlery says Israel is wrong, and then tells the Russians to overcharge.

This is the most inept administration EVER.

Obama ain’t gonna apologize, because he fully intended to insult the Brits.

He hates the Brits, as would be obvious to anyone who reads “Dreams from My Father,” and takes their colonization of Kenya, and treatment of his grandfather, very personally.

That our diplomatic relations with our closest ally have been disrupted because of the personal treatment of a Luo tribesman by a British colonial officer in Kenya over 50 years ago shows how foolish it is to elect a president who has deeper emotional roots in Kenya than he does in the United States of America.

There's many things we can get Obama for but that part isn't one of them. Due to the many regions of DVDs multi system region free players are popular in Europe. Canada is on the same system we are and Australia has their own region meaning in the UK one is more likely to need such a DVD player. The players are more expensive but not cost prohibitive.

However I did read that PM Brown's eyesight isn't that good. That information is known and Obama’s people should have done their homework on that part.

Nice point, BillyBoy.

I was almost feeling sorry for the Brits, until you reminded me they’re a bunch of dhimmi socialists, taxing their people for the “element of Satan” carbon-dioxide, while bowing and surrendering to the moslem koranimals.

REMEMBER: THEY WOULDN’T LET GEERT WILDERS INTO THE U.K. FOR FEAR OF MOSLEM KORANIMAL PROTESTS.

Cowards deserve a box of DVDs, so BHOle the Manchurian Candidate offended the correct party this time.

This is the most inept administration EVER.

I share this opinion. It's a classic case of the dog catching the car and not knowing what to do with it.

Did Obama ever meet his grandfather on whose behalf he took such umbrage?

Need I ask?

Interesting you ask about his grandfather.

Of course we only have The One’s side of the story in his book, but he does reveal that after working for the Brits his grandfather always wore British-style clothes as opposed to tribal dress and became very precise and demanding (after the British manner), as opposed to the laidback and lackadaisical ways of the Luo. And his grandfather went to Burma during WWI and served there with the British Army.

So it is not at all clear that the grandfather even shared the Obamessiah’s resentment of the British, or didn’t think he gained more than he suffered by having associated with the British colonial regime for so many years.

Barry seems to enjoy finding reasons to be angry and resentful. Not sure how much stock I’d put in either of his bio’s.

My ancestors were Irish .. suppose I really should have an anti-Brit grievance going. But I don’t resent what they did in the past, I resent what’s going on today.

I agree. FN should let the WH apologize for themselves and quit doing the job that they should do in the first place.

And yes, I do remember Brown and the limeys getting behind O before the election. Now live with it..

That our diplomatic relations with our closest ally have been disrupted because of the personal treatment of a Luo tribesman by a British colonial officer in Kenya over 50 years ago shows how foolish it is to elect a president who has deeper emotional roots in Kenya than he does in the United States of America.

This is probably the aspect I find most dread-inducing about Obama. He has very little in common with the average American. His mother was an anti-American atheist, his father was a Kenyan communist, he went to a Muslim school and spent four years in Indonesia. His step-father was a Muslim, his father's grandfather was a member of the Mau Mau rebellion. His best friend as a teenager was an old Communist poet. His bible was Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals," his mentor was terrorist Bill Ayers, and his spiritual guide a racist black separatist preacher.

We have as our leader a man who apparently thinks it's just fine to carry out personal vendettas at our country's expense. This does not bode well.
