Obama's Gallop approval rating currently sits around 64% (just 1% higher than Bush's at the same point during his presidency), but it's worth noting that Obama's first month approval rating was lower than Bush's:

Why is it worth noting?

Because it shows that Obama is not as extraordinarily popular as the media might have us believe.

Obama is just bush with a tan. At least that’s what my leftie friends are now saying and they hate it. They are waking up to the idea that they were snookered by his talk and the media. No change, no hope, all talk.

I never got the impression that it was trying to make us believe that.

You never got the impression that the media was trying to make Obama out to be the unanimously elected Messiah, with a 100% approval rating?

Huh.

I agree that the media was pro-Obama, but all that messiah stuff, I only saw that here and on Rush or Hannity.

It is/was hyperbole. Exaggeration rooted in truth to make a point. Few people, aside from the MSNBC staff, actually think that he is the Messiah.

I don’t know any of that staff, so I’ll take your word for it.

It’s worth noting because Obama and Bush both took office during a recession - though this recession is clearly worse than 2000’s and he has two wars on top of it. And when they took office, Obama’s approval numbers were upward of 70% and Bush’s were just above 50%. After 30 days into their respective presidencies, Obama’s numbers went down and ended up lower than Bush’s.
