Do You Have Any Good Economic News? -Vanity

I have really, really cut down on the number of hours spent reading the newspaper, watching the news, and listening to talk radio, because, to put it simply, it is depressing. All I hear about is how the economy is in the tank, and it won't be long until we are all eating grass clippings from the local park.

All this depressing news has got me really worried. Is my job stable, will I be able to provide for my wife and new baby?

Despite all of this terrible news, things do seem to be going just fine for me. Gas is cheap, that is saving me a bundle. I had enough money to get my family Christmas presents. We have pleanty of food to eat. I have enough money saved up to pay off all the maternity bills when we finally get them. Things really are going just fine, despite all the news.

How are things going for you? I want to create a post for my website, listing GOOD NEWS in this economy. I want to give people something that they can read, and feel good about, not depressed! So please, if you have some good economic news, share it with me, so that I can share it with others. Also, if you want to include where in the country you live, that would be great.

I grew up poor and that’s a positive. While others panic, I weather the storm.

On a good note, my wife has stopped trying to keep up with the Joneses, now that they defaulted on their McMansion.

Oil prices down, good news for me, anyway.

Don't do it; the ducks poop in it. Good news? Roast duck is very tasty.

For that matter, stock prices being down is good too. I am a net saver, so cheaper stocks mean I will get better value when I buy stock now. I’ve actually held off for years and left money in cash or CDs, but now the market looks to be at a fair price and probably a decent place to put money to work for a change.

Actually the company I work for got a couple of new contracts within the last couple of months. 2009 looks good. After that who knows.

I enjoy paying $1.70 for gas.

Well, I am reviewing my 2009 budget and business plan with my boss this afternoon and I am projecting an increase in sales of 10%! So there is a nice rosy forecast.

Watching the news and listening to talk radio won't do a single thing to help you ensure the stability of your job.

What will do that is making sure that you are doing everything you can do to cause your boss to be thinking something along these lines when he's driving home from work each day: how could I possibly get along without Notoriously Conservative... I sure hope he doesn't take his great personality, positive attitude, and amazing knowledge of his field with him to some other employer."

Nothing really great to report. We were at Disneyland last Thursday and Friday. Crowds were very manageable. Were able to get on our favorite rides (Tower of Terror, California Screamin) over and over. I guess that's good news for us! Dh's business is maintaining but he's not as busy as he usually is at this time of year, but we're grateful and thank God for every single customer we have.

We were at a gun show yesterday and some of the buyers reported doing quite well with gun sales. The ammo we were looking for, .357, was completely sold out, so I guess that's good news for the ammo dealer.

When we eat out, we never, ever have more than a five minute wait. Again, that's nice for us but not for the restaurant business. My sis called from a large mall today and said it's not crowded at all. She was happy about that, but to me, it's more like watching the tide go way, way, way out just before a tsunami.

I'm feeling way more like an Eeyore right now than a Tigger.

Yeah, so most of this isn’t really good news, per se. I would really love some words of encouragement to post on my website, so that people have something inspiring, and comforting to read for a change. Or are things really just this bad?
