The Washington state supreme court has forced the Boy Scouts of America to turn over "ineligible volunteer" files that revealed a sexual abuse problem among Scout leaders far greater than the organization previously admitted. Although justices ruled that the files themselves would not be made public, attorneys said the Boy Scouts "have ejected at least 5,100 adult leaders nationwide for sexual abuse allegations since 1946," according to the Seattle Times.
In the past 15 years, the organization has kicked out leaders for abuse allegations at a rate of one every other day.
The ruling stemmed from a 2003 suit filed by two former Scouts, brothers Tom and Matt Stewart, now men in their 40s, who say they were sexually molested by a Scoutmaster over many years.
The records they obtained show that, as part of the "ineligible volunteer" files, the organization retained information on 1,000 "degenerates." The Stewarts' attorneys counted 732 "degenerate" files from 1946 to 1971 among the 45 boxes of files ordered disclosed by the Scouts.
Lumped together as "degenerates" were both volunteers known to be gay and/or known to be pedophiles.
Jon Davidson, legal director of Lambda Legal, told Gay.com that the Boy Scouts of America understood that those two groups had little, if anything, to do with each other.

Every man who molests boys is gay by definition. The fact that there are many gays who are not molesters is not pertinent.
There are a number of examples of married men with kids who seem to have a secret life.
Married they may be, but gay they most certainly are, or at least bisexual.
I would no sooner let my son go camping with a gay man, ANY gay man, than I would let my daughter go camping with a heterosexual man.

I have read that in Holland and New Zealand, both gay-friendly countries, homosexuals also have higher rates of suicide. You are assuming that higher suicide rates stem from social conditions (problem is outside of oneself) rather than the homosexual lifestyle itself (problem is within oneself).
I wish I had the link to the FBI report that often appears here on FR when this topic comes up (I can't find the report on the FBI website today), but isn't it true that the overwhelming majority of pedophiles pick either males or females to molest, and not both? Doesn't the choice indicate a sexual preference of homosexuality or heterosexuality?
If you believe the politically correct statement that pedophiles are simply pedophiles, and not homosexual, bisexual, or heterosexual, then you're left with a strange possibility:
Assuming a state where the age of consent is sixteen, a guy who likes to have sex with boys who are 15 years and 364 days old is simply a pedophile; while another guy who likes to have sex with boys who are 16 years and 1 day old is a homosexual.
Please, somebody, link to the FBI report. It's great fodder to use against those who keep announcing that the majority of pedophiles are heterosexual (and isn't it cute that pedophiles can be heterosexual when it helps your agenda, but never homosexual when it hurts your agenda). That's true. Something like 60-65% of pedophiles (almost all of whom are male) have opposite sex victims according to that report. However, if homosexuals make up 2% (or even 4%) of the population but account for 35-40% of pedophiles, then it means the average homosexual is 17.5 to 20 times more likely to be a pedophile than the average heterosexual, doesn't it?
The report also has staggering statistics about the average number of victims of pedophiles. Heterosexual pedophiles, on average, have only a few victims -- helped in part by the fact that the 21-year old who has sex with his 15-year old girlfriend is a technically a pedophile. As is the 40-year old idiot who has sex with the young teen babysitter of his children. They're counted as pedophiles, but have only one or a few victims. I believe the report from the FBI's study suggests that male pedophiles with same sex victims have, on average, over FIFTY times as many victims as male pedophiles with female victims.
Gay men may have long-term or lifelong relationships with another man. The gay lifestyle may not be for me, but I say congratulations on finding someone you love and can have as a partner for life. I wish you happiness and I do not condemn you. However, dictionaries of gay slang have hundreds of different terms for either underage boys or adult gay males who prey on or are attracted to underage boys. That is part of much of the gay culture.
I've reached the point in my life where everything causes a Simpsons flashback. In one episode, Bart makes his own t-shirts with cocky sayings, and a Willy Wonka-esque character starts carrying the shirt in his nationwide chain of retail stores. Homer's quote was something about it being "every parents' dream when an eccentric single man takes a special interest in your son."
This stand by the BSA is what has caused them to lose their headquarters building in Philadelphia, their summer camp in Balboa Park, San Diego, and the Sea Scouts' right to a boat slip in (I think) San Francisco, among other pieces of property that the BSA paid for through improvements and other work required in the initial agreements as payment for the lease or property.

We can all seek to understand everybody and everything until hell freezes over, but the fact remains that Scouting was never - ever - meant to decline to the level where the mindless ideal of ‘understanding’ trumps the moral codes that built our civilization. BP would not approve.

The response I had in mind would’ve gotten me a time out, so I just pinged to the list and said nothing.
I’d like to see how many government workers are responsible for sexual abuse (which we all acknowledge IS wrong) in comparision to the percentage of boy-scout leaders ejected: I’ll make the case; I’ll bet the ratio would be much higher in the government run institutions (see public education), etc.
With the exception of women who do so.
