...... illegals from Canada the number was around 12,000 nationwide .....

Damn those illegal Canadians! They are everywhere, giving honest Latino Illegal Immigrants a bad name! They infest certain regions in Maine, too. Eh?

Everytime I see one, I get very angry. Why can't they learn Spanish like everyone else. Then they get a driver's license and register. Then they want the ballot in English!

Of all the frickin' nerve!

That is not my question. I know what a cult is.

My question to you was simply this: Do you consider the Roman Catholic Church a cult?

"That is not my question. I know what a cult is"

I think it should precede your main question for clarity.

In theological terms, "cult" does not have near the implications of a societal cult.

For instance, the SBC has traditionally viewed the RCC as being outside NT teaching on salvation.. in other words, Baptists believe that Catholics, on whole, are not "saved". A belief system that is in error to the point of having no soteriological value would, indeed if true, be classified a cult. AND the RCC views the SBC reciprocally.

This definition of a cult in religious terms is historical and entirely theoligical, lacking the pejorative implications of secular usage of the term. Other synonymous labels would be "heretical", "false doctrine", etc.

So, it would be pertinent to know if one is stating the RCC to be a theological cult (from his belief perspective), or a societal cult (having harmful social implications). It is also important to remember that some cults are BOTH religious and socially, cultic.

I will wrap this up by stating that in theological discourse (until recently) the cult label has never had the notoriety of it's societal counterpart. It has basically been a powerless weapon of debate, in that every denomination has equal access to the charge. Basically a M.A.D. of religious discourse.

"What I AM saying is that exagerration of numbers is not helpful to getting a solution to this problem."

I agree, there is no point in that.

As to the numbers actually here, who knows....

"We need to secure our borders and provide for some mechanism to legalize the status of those that are here.

Why?"

"So, it makes more sense to secure the border FIRST, and then decide what to do with those who are here."

"As for the IRS comments, that's a bit moronic in my opinion. It's call law enforcement."

What you are not seeing is the unintended consequences. You want expanded IRS enforcement and more govt. oversight and regulation of business. In the right hands probably no big deal, but in the hands of a political hack like Clinton it is a big deal.

You've missed the key point I was trying to convey, which is if anything is going to get done all sides must compromise.

Overstayed VISA's is a huge problem. The border is only a part of the ever expanding problem.

Thank you for saying that! I have done so for a very long time, but get hooted at, by people who care about only one border and only one people...the Mexicans.

There is a HUGE amount of illegals here, who are Chinese, Irish, African, Pakistani, and ex-USSR nations/Russians, who are a gigantic problem. Some are here via overstayed VISAs and others got here in planes, the holds of cargo ships, and through our border with Canada. Something REALLY has to be done about this!

Eventually, the numbers will become so staggering, as to have its own momentum. It may have allready.

Someday, those that don't think illegal immigration is a problem will need to go to a hospital. They may find it so congested, they will be unable to get the help they need.

We will have increased use of gated communities to keep the rift-raft out. More and more of these will start to have their own medical staffs. Those who can afford to, will live very well, the rest will have to eke it out with the wretched refuse from everyone's teeming shore.

So, let's see, you believe it is a choice of all or nothing too. We accept legalization of those who are here now, or we don't get border security. So, in essence, you are the pot calling the kettle black.
I will only trust them to secure the borders when they have done it. They have made promises to do it before, and they got their amnesty and we got bupkis. Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice shame on me.

I don't understand what on earth you mean by your post. Couldn't be that you just don't have a good response, so you would rather just be insulting instead? Whatever floats your boat, I suppose.

Always a pleasure to speak with the "old guard". Too few of us left here anymore.

It's too bad you don't recognize sarcasm when it smacks you in the face. The failure to recognize that this issue is multifaceted will doom any potential solution to never getting done.

You don't trust the other side and they don't trust you, so how do you fix this problem?

Good sarcasm is fairly easy to spot. But, it must be rooted in truth. There is absolutely no point in continuing this conversation. Adios.
