Finally another voice has joined that of President Bush, PM Blair, and PM Howard in calling for a Global War on Terror! After confirming that Al-Qaeda in Iraq used three foreign suicide bombers to attack Amman hotels, killing 57 others, King Abdullah II stepped out and called for a global fight against terrorism.
Although the circumstances that led to this decision are tragic, it is reassuring that another nation understands the stakes and that islamo-fascist terror must be eradicated on a global scale. King Abdullah ads Jordan to the list of nations that understand what a Global War on Terror means. The United States, Britain, Australia, Poland, and Italy to name a few have stood by their commitment to fight terror wherever it rears its head.
Sadly, in the United States, the Democrats are too preoccupied with trying to assign blame for going to war to focus on winning the war. In Britain, the Government stabbed Blair in the back in his fight against terror a mere three months after the London bombings. The Lefts preoccupation with political correctness and appeasement is taken as a sign of weakness and exploited by the islamo-fascists.
Hopefully a strong commitment by Jordan to fight terror on a global scale will inspire others to do the same. This in turn will hopefully get this nations eye back on the ball and the Left will stop trying to obstruct the War on Terror and help us win it. It is hard to be the leader when the minority party continually tries to cut your legs out from under you and your Democrat Senators provide inspirational sound bites for Al-Jazeera.
Certified Terror Friendly.
certifiable
I seem to remember a bunch of antiwar protests in Jordan right when the war began, and the government not having any problem with it.
The circumstances that led to our decision to go to war against global terror were tragic too, join the club Jordan.
How different people's reactions are to an attack. The US, Britts, Aussies, and now Jordan, solidify their strength and try to attack back. Spain run away. French, who appeased the attackers, was still attacked albeit in a different form. True to their instict... the reaction was to appease even more.
Years of Clintonian neglect led to our involvement. Thank God Kerry didn't win or we would be appeasers too.
Now if someone could get through to the Democrats then . . . nevermind.
But let us not get to euphoric. We must remember this is the government's proclamation, not neccessarily the will of a large part of the Jordanian population who classify Israel and the US as their enemies. But the King has at least made the statement that points a finger at all radical Islamo groups. Of course he has in essence did that already. And as we know he does try to put down any internal Islamofacists disorder as it pops its head up. And he has allowed us to use his soil to train Iraqi army and police recruites etc.. I do realize we provide much needed financial aid as well as military hardware to him. So perhaps he will actually become a more active partner at this point. Time will tell as usual.
Thank you, we should keep it in perspective. Countries like this change sides like the wind.
Of course this adminstration's hope is that those partnered for a long term fight against all forms of terrorism, shall by that virtue, come closer together on other matters. One reason some of these countries change sides, are simply do not choose sides is that they need strong "reliable support", from a given larger power. The US and Britain to name the two key elements in this, and to a lesser degree say the French, must show these countries they will not abandon them. We cannot afford to support regime change in the ME, without standing by our word, such is happening in Iraq this time around. These peoples unlike much of the western nations really do look up to strong support. They dispise wishy washy performance. The US must show Jordan and other ME countries that it will not turn it's face from them once agreements are commited. That has been a big problem all along in the ME, in so many ways. GWB has through public dialog this time around taken a consistant view that he would like these peoples to have a brighter future. He unlike many earlier administrations, consistantly speaks to the peoples of these nations in a direct form.
OK I will risk ridicule, and make a brash statement.
Bush reaches his hand out to the people of these lands and offers his hand in peace, saying we have the power to help you get out of the sh*tholes you live in. If you countries reform in your view of the rest of the world, the USA will be a long term friend. In some ways it could be as simple as this. Now if Iraq goes according to plan. It is going to be harder for the hardliner Islamofacist elements in these lands to say, look folks, you must continue to live in a hole, you have no rights, you owe your life to allah, and what we say is what you must follow. As apposed to GWB's hand being reached out and saying. Your God gave you a free spirit, a will, a chance to better yourself and make your children's lives more bearable in the future.
That in essence is what GWB continues to harp on with IMHO, good cause. A friend that has been helped and achieves some degree of success is not going want to bite the hand that was offered in friendship. And as human nature has always been. The stronger better equiped side of the friendship must never be seen as being two sided. Perhaps my tagline sums up what I am attempting to communicate.
Lastly. Do not take examples of Saudi Arabia and Iran in times past as rebuttals. Because in both these cases we simply where supporting the installed leadership, not the peoples directly. To many and rightfully so can wade through all the things we did wrong in these two sited cases. But they do not fit into the model of diplomacy I elude to above, in fact quite the contrary.
well said.
Jordon has, for decades, been one of the most democratic of countries in the region -much to the ire of the Islamofacists - al-Zarqawi and his minions have been fighting Jordan for years - even attempted to bomb the same Hotels in 1998-9 - long before there was a Pres. Bush.
Jordon is a target because it espouses much more individual freedom than the other Muslim countries around it.
Let's not make the mistake of blanket judgment
Thank you.
It is also a target because of al-Zarqawi's hatred of his homeland. I still think he has aspirations of gradeur and plans to spread his terror to muslims and infidels alike.
<..the Democrats are too preoccupied with trying to assign blame for going to war to focus on winning the war.>
Cheney ought to say: "the Democrats don't even know what time of day it is...."
While they are trying to assign blame for going to war, they are fueling the resistence in Iraq. Their attacks on the Bush administration combined with the bone head play in the Senate (Warner Amendment)have sent a message of disaray to our enemies and our troops.
