Why Is There So Much Criticism Of Chirac Not Attending President Reagan's Funeral?

I have heard a lot of criticism aimed at President Chirac of France because he did not plan to attend President Ronald Reagan's Funeral Services while here in The United States of America. I am left to ask the question, so what?

In my humble opinion, President Chirac did the very best thing he could do, not attend our beloved President Reagan's Funeral. Chirac can not be mistaken, by a long shot, to even be in the same class as President Reagan. Further, I am glad Chirac did not attend, because I do not want our Nation's Farewell to The Greatest President in my lifetime, to be tarnished by Chirac's attendance.

Chirac would only exasperate Nancy Reagan by his presence. I submit to all who read this thread, Mrs. Reagan refused to talk to John Kerry on the phone and did not invite Bill "The Sleeping Dud" Clinton to speak at Our Beloved Ronald Reagan's Funeral Service for this same reason!

My sincerest hope is these clowns will leave Mrs. Reagan and her family alone as they will grieve this loss for a long time to come. These vultures and publicity hounds could use a good hard lesson in ettiquete and manners.

May God richly bless Nancy Reagan and all of The Reagan Family in their loss. I echo the sentiments of Vice President Chaney by saying,"Thank you Mrs. Reagan, for sharing your husband with all of us." I consider President Reagan to be the Greatest President in my lifetime.

If only all of the other cronies who disagreed with Reagan would have had as much class as Chirac and stay away from The President Reagan Funeral Services.

"If only all of the other cronies who disagreed with Reagan would have had as much class as Chirac...."

Hold on a minute....Chirac and class are two words that should never go together. It wasn't class that kept Chirac away from Reagan's funeral.....it was distasteful and he could have sent somebody to represent France.

While you might be right about the class part, I disagree with him sending a representative. France is not our friend. France has been against us for quite sometime, and therefore has no business attending President Reagan's Funeral. I have no doubt Chirac would oppose Reagan's stand against anything detrimental to Freedom.I prefer that none of the french attend. Even though Chirac has no class, his not attending President Reagan's Funeral in and of itself was class.

"Chirac wasn't there? Sorry, I didn't notice."

This is the point I am trying to make. There has been a lot of criticism aimed at Chirac. Many have said Chirac's decision to not attend The Reagan Funeral is a slap in the face of the Reagan Family. I believe were The Reagan family to be asked how they feel about this subject, we would find they in no way consider this a slap in the face of The Reagan Family. The question to me is,"Is it worse for Chirac to attend the Funeral or send a Representative to the Funeral or just simply not attending at all?"

My answer to this is, I think it is far better Chirac didn't attend or send a representative. Chirac and the French Government do not stand with America. They do not hold the same values as us. I have no doubt Chirac and the French Government were every bit as opposed to Ronald Reagan and his policies in support of liberty and freedom as they have clearly demonstrated themselves to be against George W. Bush and his policies supporting the same things. I will even go farther and say we should not have allowed Chirac or any representative of the French Government on American soil to attend the G 8 summit.

I think there has been a bunch of hay made about what I believe to be a non-issue. Mrs. Reagan refused to speak to John Kerry on the phone and did not ask Bill Clinton to speak at our beloved President Reagan's Funeral for what I believe to be the same reasons The Reagan Family would not consider Chirac's refusal to attend the Reagan Funeral a big deal. I know I can't truly speak for The Reagan Family, but considering their reaction to the "French looking" John Kerry, I think it is safe to say Mrs. Reagan as well as the entire family and friends of President Ronald Reagan are happier knowing Chirac nor any of his cronies were there.
