A German man who found a lost check worth more than $4 million...is disappointed with the company's "cheap" reward.
The man, identified by Daily Mail as Anouar G., 38, of Frankfurt, said we was sent a box of gummies valued at just over $6 for returning the check worth $4,631,538.80 Euros ($4.05 million USD).
The check was reportedly issued to Haribo from the supermarket group Rewe and was inexplicably misplaced.
"There was such a large sum on it that I couldn't even pronounce it," Anouar told local media outlets via Daily Mail.
Anouar contacted Haribo and was told by a company attorney to destroy the check and send photographic proof showing that he complied with the order.
The 38-year-old did so and was sent a box containing six bags of Haribo candies several days later, which he said he "thought was a bit cheap," as he believes he saved the company millions.

It's not exactly up there with rescuing a kid from a burning building but then I'm not a big Haribo fan so I guess I understand the disappointment.

It couldn’t be cashed...and there was obviously a hold on the check...in fact...what he found was....nothing...

At least they didn’t send him any sugar-free Haribo gummies. Those things legendary.

Supposedly, if you eat about 20 of the sugar free ones, the results are explosive. Amazon doesn’t carry them anymore.

He got a box of gummies out of the deal, but the best thing was he did the right thing. On the other hand, the company will be known for their actions as well.
To: Saije
He didn’t save the company millions.
What a moron.

I turned in the $4 million check, and all I got was six lousy bags of candy."

You explained what I was thinking.
No one could have used that check anyway.
Now, if he had found a book of blank checks, or money orders, or debit gift cards, that would be a different story.
Even still, he’s dealing with a corporation, not some forgetful 95 y/o who dropped a check his wallet while in CostCo. Corporations don’t want to give anything away if there is no return benefit.
To: Saije
They should have given him a year’s supply plus some company-themed swag. It would have been a good PR move.

That check would have been cancelled long before you found it, Fritz.
To: Saije
Bet they sent him the sugar free Haribo gummies.

That’s the way I see it. Good grief. This is what passes for disappointment for some people I guess.

It's all because of the innocent-sounding sugar alcohol called maltitol, which is found in the ingredient called lycasin.

Check was not made out to him. Any attempt to cash or deposit would have been theft.
