There have been some high-profile lies this election season. The most recent that comes to mind is the story about the thousands of Muslims that were supposedly having tailgate-style parties celebrating after 9/11. In the book, you say, essentially, weâre OK with lies. Can you walk me through why weâre built not only for being deceptive, but also tolerating deception?
Trumpâs supporters donât particularly care whether heâs lying or not. Our brain doesnât really careâI know thatâs appalling. Our default position is we simply want to be right.
This is why our brain rationalizes our actions even when theyâre at variance with our principlesâthatâs what cognitive dissonance is all about. So Trump supportersâwhen they hear Donald Trump say thousands of Muslims celebrated 9/11, and that turns out to be a lie, that obviously creates a conflict. Our brain tries to get out of these types of conflict in any way it can. One of the standard ways is to discredit the messengerâwe say the mainstream media is full of it, for example. Thatâs true for Hillary Clinton supporters and true for Donald Trump supporters. All of us, Republicans, Democrats, we are all afflicted with this inclination to believe what we believe, and it doesnât matter what the facts say. It took 11 months before public opinion started going against Nixon during Watergate.

Funny that a ‘rat hates emotional thinking when it doesn’t go her way.
Perhaps, if you've been "programmed" by television.
My support for Trump has nothing to do with emotions, it’s simple survival instincts. Professional politicians and lawyers are kill us as a nation, we need to move to a government of citizens as the founders intended.
Trump needs to declassify the entire 911 report the day he takes office. The public needs to know the level of Saudi support for the hyjackers. The truth needs to come out. They aren’t our allies or friends. They are using their oil money to spread Wahabism everywhere.
Mine isn’t. Its hardwired to not seriously listen to this level of Kool Aid drinking stupidity either.
You got about 5 threads waiting you to back up your assertions lib. Get ta skippin, not adding to your fail.
It’s the libs who are hard-wired.
‘The truth needs to come out. [The Saudis] arenât our allies or friends. They are using their oil money to spread Wahabism everywhere.’
Absolutely true!
Whether or not dishonesty is wrong depends on the context. A rational individual may need to lie to preserve and protect his natural rights against criminals or a tyrannical libtard government.
I find it weird that this ditz doesn’t see any problems with her beloved queen, Clinton.
If this is true then those that love obama, hitlery and sanders are also hardwired to love them, because everyone wants to be right.
Liberals are so fuching idiotic.
Mine isn’t either. All it took was reading the first two sentences and I knew that it was a not so cleverly disguised Trump hit piece.
Since I don’t love Trump it’s assumed I have faulty wiring...but those cloth covered ones are tricky;) Old and unimpressed with having to light halogen.
I just had a Rubio supporter on Twitter tell me, after I told him ‘no amnesty, no Rubio, no way’ ‘it’s too bad I don’t like immigrants’
That’s the Rubio campaign, and a lot of the others I suspect because where are they on this immigration crap?
Only Trump has constantly said he will do anything about it. I am sick of our city and our country now half full of foreigners and the crimes reported often a foreign name.
I didn’t get past the title. The mere idea that someone is hardwired to any political candidate is as absurd a notion as can be regardless of what follows. Although I do note that his ardent defender above had to bash without the faintest clue as to what he was talking about so maybe there is truth in the notion afterall.
I wish I could read it, but it is to the point where, with all of the symbols, I cannot.
