If you think comparing Mitt Romney’s supporters in the American South to the Civil War’s Confederacy would be irresponsible and racially suggestive, Daily Beast “Daily Dish” blogger Andrew Sullivan apparently disagrees with you.
“If Virginia and Florida go back to the Republicans, it’s the Confederacy, entirely,” Sullivan declared on this weekend’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”
“You put a map of the Civil War over this electoral map, you’ve got the Civil War,” he added.
That comment drew the ire of Washington Post columnist George Will, who said the president’s policies — not racism — are influencing voters in states like Virginia and Florida.
“Democrats have been losing the white vote constantly since 1964, so that’s not new,” Will said. “Here’s what we’re trying to talk about — 2008, Obama gets that many white votes. This time the polls indicate he may get this many. We’re trying to explain this difference. Now, two possible explanations — a lot of white people that voted for Obama in 2008 watched him govern for four years and said, ‘Not so good, let’s try someone else.’ The alternative — the Confederacy hypothesis is those people for some reason somehow the last four years became racists.”
Sullivan countered that he wasn’t necessarily alleging racism.
“I’m just pointing out the fact that the white people that have changed their minds happened to be in Virginia and Florida,” Sullivan responded. “And if you actually look at the map, they were the only two … the Southernization of Republican Party, they were the only two states in 2008 that violated the Confederacy rule.”
“You made an empirical statement that is checkable and false, which is the white people moving, moving away are in those two states,” Will countered.
That’s funny, the confederates were Democrats.
If I could make one suggest to the “This Week” production crew....please remove the Daily Beast commentators. They have become a cheerleader squad and frankly, you’d get better opinions from a barbershop crew in Iuka, Mississippi than these dimwits.

While flipping through the channels this morning, I actually caught this ridiculous tv moment. I used to watch “This Week” quite regularly back in the Brinkley days, but stopped entirely after he died.
Anyway, the show looked like some kind of SNL parody, with that pervert Sullivan sitting there talking about a new “Confederacy,” and that loathesome skank Nicole Wallace grinning aside him, and Stephanopolous intently staring. Beltway punditry never looked so embarrassingly pathetic. It just jars me to think this is what has become of the show I used to watch so much those many years ago.
This much is true, however the racism accusation is a red herring. It is true now as was then, this "Cold" Civil War is about the relation ship between the Federal and the State(s). The first Civil War was about states rights, and here we are again.

I suppose it is amusing in a way that a southern Republican Confederacy today, while retaining the spirit of the American Revolution, would also retain the spirit of Lincoln’s Union, freedom and liberty.
And once again, the Democrats would be on the wrong side of history, supporting oppression, hate and the seven deadly sins as is their want.
As an interesting aside, I think it helps considerably to understand the Democrat point of view by reading the book, Cannibals All!, or Slaves Without Masters (1857), by George Fitzhugh.
It is not just a passionate defense of slavery, but a view of slavery as “proto-socialism”, a system so good that 9 out of every 10 people should be slaves, working for the remaining 1 out of 10 who would be the masters.

I guess Andrew's on television, so that counts for something in terms of significance. Call that a 5 to begin with. But in comparison to other television pundits, he's a small fish, so that puts him down to a 2 or a 3 for significance.
Then decide whether it's worthwhile posting what he has to say. Is his outburst really important enough to post here? I don't think there's much validity in what he has to say. You might think it reveals something about what the "media elite" is thinking, but I suspect it just gives people something to get riled up about.

Yes, the demented “Trig Truther” Sullivan. Indeed, when I caught the show while flipping channels, it was the initial sight of a two-shot of Sullivan/Wallace together that grabbed my attention, being well aware of how both these idiot scumbags were rewarded with their current spotlight and status as network pundits by their outlandish lying and smearing of Palin.
A good read, and quite telling also. Once the Union private interests took over the Southern private property (excepting slaves who were considered capital property in those times) and land, they then proceeded to put cheap labor factories in place and a new form of wage slavery for all who were thus economically trapped. So it was the Progressive socialists/neomarxists who used this meme and who replaced the real plantation with the govt. plantation, using the template of the “downtrodden” labor masses, and took over private enterprise into their industrial combines and railroads— and in the process making slaves comprised of many types of dependency of a whole lot more people, black and otherwise. And it was always the Democrat party preserving the status quo, however they could.
A crowning example of the statement that “Socialism is Theft”.
Not wanting to start another thread— but this has been the point of descendants of the propertied class of the South:that slaves became “constituencies” for the Progressives (working through the Freedmens Bureau and Reconstruction to impose federal political control over the “conquered” states, and later through the welfare state and War on Poverty)working to expand the Statist conquest over our Constitutional Republic and the total removal of States Rights. We have now come full circle, where the worst possible conservative to the Progressives, is a black conservative (Herman Cain, Thomas Sowell, etc.).
