Shocking Moment Cop floored woman with savage sucker punch during parade
DailyMail ^ | October 1, 2012 | Daily Mail Reporter

This is the shocking moment a police sergeant punched a young woman in the face because he thought she sprayed silly string at him during a peaceful parade.

The video was recorded during yesterday's 50th anniversary Puerto Rican Day parade in Philadelphia - where around 1,500 people were in attendance.

The 36-second clip shows a number of people milling around enjoying the festivities in the 'City of Brotherly Love'.

From the left-hand side, someone can be seen throwing an unidentified liquid towards a group of police officers.

At the same time, a young woman is walking past - who also gets hit by the liquid.

As she turns around to see where it came from, a police officer in a white shirt - which means he has acquired the rank of sergeant - comes towards the woman and delivers a brutal punch to her face, knocking her to the ground.

For those of you who said the cop overreacted, a review of the assault law is in order.

For you a review of common sense is in order. Please tell me you were drunk when you wrote your comment and didn’t actually see the video before typing it. Exactly where is her assault on the cop?

And you may be right, his actions may not have been justified.

But the point of the entire post is that we don’t know ALL the facts. The video doesn’t reveal them.

“Investigators tell FOX 29’s Dave Schratwieser that they’re looking at another video from earlier that may show the same woman spraying silly string on officers.”

It all started with Rodney King. We never have seen the 5 minutes that led up to his deserved ass-whuping.

If you never saw those five minutes, how do you know his "ass-whuping(sic)" was deserved? See, you junior birdmen want to have it both ways.

Time to grow up, hold cops (especially sergeants) to a common standard of conduct. They should act with as least as much restraint as they demand of the populace at their mercy. Otherwise they are just thugs in uniform, like this one.

Your assumptions are most revealing; you refuse to allow for the notion that a very wicked cop would *not* strike the first innocent in his path when someone sprays silly string and some of it touches the cop.

Did someone deliberately aim the silly string/water/projectile at the cop? Not necessarily. The woman was struck as well; it’s a parade, if you walk past people spraying silly string, etc about, you will likely get sprayed.

Someone who refuses to conceive or admit that a person, by virtue of their occupation, is incapable of engaging in wickedness, by default is *worshiping* members of that occupation.

Punching someone for the offense of being sprayed with silly string / water is way out of line for anyone other than a government worshiper.

(Do I really need a sarc tag?)

Actually, yeah.
It would also be useful if you told us how many times you've been arrested; unjustly, I'm sure.

Your constant repetition of "victim" phrases about supporters of LEOs is a dead giveaway.

This idiot is lucky that the crowd didn’t turn against them.

I suspect that is the goal for October, real citizen-on-cop violence to justify "temporarily" suspending the election.

No doughnut for this cop, he didn't start an insurrection.

Ah well, the month is young...

if someone sprayed silly string on me I can guarantee you that my first reaction will not be to sucker punch a woman

Same here. I guess Texans are a lot more thin-skinned and fragile than the rest of us.

Angry that the police-gods are being criticized?

That’s also progressive—to idolize government employees.

Conservatives have a dim view of striking women, period. Given the reaction of the crowd, it would seem most present understood the officer was *way* out of line.

The legality of assaulting someone publicly does not depend on the nature of the crowd.

The officer may have had legitimate cause to handcuff her.

He did not have legitimate cause to strike her.

Conservatives understand the difference, and won’t defend the latter.

He should be fired.
He literally took steps towards her, then punched her in the face, roughed her up and then arrested her.
There is no way he could have known who sprayed him, if he even was, that it was her and a punch in the face is over kill.
Of course the union supports the guy, even though those other cops saw the action they’ll support him.

Ahh, so if a government employee commits a crime in a public location and stunned witnesses do not immediately take him to task, the government employee is justified?

Hail the State, comrade! Praise the government employees!

“It all started with Rodney King. We never have seen the 5 minutes that led up to his deserved ass-whuping.”

I saw it! I was working nights, and I saw the very first video,,, before it was cropped. King kept getting up, and tried to walk around the back of his car. He was completely resisting the officers. I think he was on PCP, or something. It was an amazing vid, never to be seen again!

Note that the officers immediately step in to defend the assailant.

I expect the stunned parade attendees were still processing “Did I really just see that?”

If they see it another time, they will more likely be quicker to act.

A peace officer would NEVER have struck the woman.

You are making a lot of assumptions, many more than I am making, and yet, you are accusing me. What gives you this right, while you would deny it to me?

If the cop is in the wrong, fine. Hang him. He deserves the most severe repercussions imaginable if his action was unjustified. But unless the Constitution has changed, even HE has the right to an investigation and trial, which, it seems, many so-called “conservatives” here would deny him.

Did you watch the Rodney King “beating” videos? Did you agree with the looters?

Why don't you just pay your tickets and come out of hiding already?

Nobody saw those five minutes, genius.
But there were enough witnesses to the actions of the loser as to his mental and physical state during the incident; including the injuries he inflicted on the arresting cops. He was drugged to the gills, and tasers were not yet in use (and are often ineffective among the heavily drugged.)

My point, I did not make my judgement based solely on the famous video of the end of the incident. I was an adult when that happened, and followed the trial and the political railroading of the cops closely.

Were you even born yet?
