Fear of The West In Russia

By Masha Lipman Tuesday, May 2, 2006; Page A21

MOSCOW -- Early in the perestroika years, Mikhail Gorbachev declared the preeminence of human values for Soviet Russia. It was a truly revolutionary pronouncement: During decades of Cold War the U.S.S.R. had staunchly rejected civil liberties and other pillars of liberal democracy as "bourgeois" and alien to the Soviet man and state. Gorbachev sought to convince the West that the Soviet Union was opening up for real.

After the collapse of communism and the Soviet Union, Russia rid itself of its oppressive police state, and the Russian people were finally free to choose how they wanted their country to evolve. In those days it was believed that Russia would become part of a broader democratic world. The time of irreconcilable confrontation with the West seemed to be over.

More like the Kremlin fears the West. The ROC was on arm of the Kremlin during Soviet Times, and it serves that same purpose today IMO.

Russia has always and probably will always be a paranoid nation that loathes the wests standing in the world.Keep on riding that train into oblivion friends because soon your neighbor China will dwarf you in military power. We have extended a hand to the russians because they could be a great ally but they always slap it away due to xenophobia.

They fear the West, even though they have been preparing to destroy the West ever since the failure of their last real Westernization attempt some 200 years ago. Also, they still, to this day, occupy part of the West (e.g. Kaliningrad, formerly Konigsburg, formerly Lutheran and tied even earlier to Rome) and still, they fear the West. They form the world's most powerful ever military bloc (the SCO) and still, they fear the West. What is wrong with this picture? And what reason, other then demonization of us prior to attempting to destroy us, have they, for inciting such a negative image of the West?

I believe that the Russian Orthodox Church( AND THE RUSSIAN BAPTIST CHURCH) dislike CERTAIN SO CALLED "Human rights":

like FAG RIGHTS TO HAVE A FLAMING-OUT-OF-THE-CLOSET OUTRAGEOUS "PARADE", LIKE the RIGHT TO HAVE AN ABORTION (murder unbabies) AND CERTAIN OTHER IDEAS THAT SINFUL/GODLESS LIBERALS BELIEVE ARE UNDENIALABLE HUMAN RIGHTS.....porn, drug abuse and smutty "hollyweird" lives.

I agree with the Religous folks in Russia. Plus, I find the materialism of the EU is disgusting and I would hate to live under their rules.

Perhaps, the religious Poles and Russians have that in common.... EU is IMMORALITY LEGALISED!!

Read what a panel of panel of experts had to say in Russia. Note the date of the article.

Panel: US-Russia and conflicting perceptions

It usually takes at least a generation or two to erase the brainwashing of communism and lower the level of xenophobia.

Russia will take a long time and Putin's constant pining for the good ol days of the UUSR thuging eastern europe will only slow down the deprogramming even more.

Why should Russia not fear the West? What good has come to Russia from the West? Communism? Repeated invasions? Secularism? The bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999 was a big turning point in the minds of many Russians that the West still cannot be trusted when it comes into contact with traditional Orthodox Christian culture.

"I agree with the Religous folks in Russia."

If you like the KGB Church of Moscow, why don't you get a one way ticket on Aeroflop.

"traditional Orthodox Christian culture."

BWAHAHAHAHA - you must be joking - do you mean the KGB Church of Moscow that is an appendage of the Kremlin - the one that went to Ukraine after the assassination attempt failed to campaign for the Russian candidate?

"For example, Western human rights views were challenged last month by participants in a "World Council of the Russian People" held under the auspices of the Russian Orthodox Church. A leading figure in the Russian Orthodox Church raised doubts about whether the "secular liberal" concept of human rights can be accepted as universal "without an appropriate correction.""

Too rich! Having spawned a thousand communist, socialist and liberal organizations throughout the U. S. that have secularized and eaten away at our society, the Russians (having morphed from communists into gangsters) now declare that we are not spiritual enough for them! Via an organization that has functioned primarily as a covert tool of state terror for more than 70 years---that center of devout holiness, the Stalin Orthodox church!

Where is the diplomacy that can bring Russia into true allince with America?

Too much brainwash on the Soviet era has frozen thinking on this.

Russia was a truly Christian nation - tsar and all that. The Romanovs are martyrs. There remains opportunity for pragmatic deals to be struck. I thought Condi was a Russian expert.

Russia is a Christian nation about seven hundred years before the founding of our Republic.

You might be an American War Vet but are you an American Vet?

Lot's of Russians fought in Viet Nam.

I went to a funeral once and it was attended by a Russian Orthodox "Priest" and rather do priestly thing, he spouted Marxist propaganda how great Russia was and how the US committed "genocide" against natives.

I almost throttled him - and I was thinking of you.
