Asa Hutchinson on John and Ken, KFI640 (Live Thread)
The John and Ken Show (KFI 64.0, Los Angeles) | truthkeeper

Posted on 07/08/2004 4:08:45 PM PDT by truthkeeper

After being inundated with calls from L.A. listeners, Asa Hutchinson has agreed to go on the show. He's on right now, so be there or be square. Will try to type the good stuff while I listen.

Actually we don't have it. I don't think any states do.

Seems like another thread has started which is critical of our current federal government == and so far, not a SINGLE POST CRITICAL of any Democrats! It must therefore, be a bunch of trolls or dem infiltrators here on FR.

It's based on a Washington Times article.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1168013/posts

You'd probably better get over there ASAP and advise them on who its appropriate to criticize.

Well, let me make this clear. I oppose sweep of the streets, and support employer sanctions, and national ID cards. Thus I oppose both yours and John and Ken's sweep of the streets policy, period, except in certain selected instances. I think the John, Ken and Saber trio sweep policy will backfire and be counterproductive, and lead to open borders.

Well, that's ridiculous. Carrot without stick is as silly as stick without carrot.

Nothing wrong with both. I'll give you a for instance...

Back when I was a bartender in the 80s, and MADD was feeling the wind in their faces, laws were passed to the effect that if an underage person with a fake ID got past the doorman with a hand stamp, and I served them, then if ABC (alcoholic beverage control) were to conduct a sweep, I'd be subject to major penalties (and worse for the establishment) while the real perp, the underager, got a slap on the wrist.

There was little disincentive for them to initiate the crime.

Yet you propose less than a slap for Illegals. There is no logic to that.

A situation whereby employers are sanctioned while Illegals are otherwise coddled would simply create a market for ever greater document forgery, with all of the national security implications such a market would entail in the War on Terror.

Furthermore, it's incomprehensible to apply the law only against one participant in a totally illegal transaction.

Would that work for prostitution?

Of course it will never happen in any event. Only the demonizing of those evil employers of illegals will have any hope of gaining real political traction.

Sort of on a side note:

What do you think of Freepers who knowingly employ Illegals?

I don't think in this high tech age document fogery would work, if we were serious. I stand by my comment, that sweeping will backfire politically. In a Torie regime, Freepers who employed illegals with mens rea, and it would be hard in a Torie regime to employ illegals, without mens rea, would go to jail, and pay a hefty fine, that would together make it economically silly to just do it.

What, you think I'll receive a response? Thank you for the compliment, btw. I'm always nice when dealing with the government :-)

Almost 500 replies on this thread and not one person mentioned the politician name Joe Baca. Why is that?

They've beat Baca like a drum on him supporting Davis tripling the car tax.....It's Asa Hutchinsons turn today.

But I agree with you. Baca is just another crack in the political wall.

Bar hopping and employment by the way don't parse out the same. In any event, it all comes down to an ID and other documentation, including a SS number, punched into a national data base, that would take heavy lifting to defeat. How do we identify anybody who is illegal by the way, if this is all impossible?

The democrats are not in charge of the Deparment of Homeland Security. The Bush Administration is. When they do a horrible job of protecting our borders, then they should be criticized. Not everything is democrat v. republican. Sometimes Republicans do stupid things. Bush cowtowing to illegal alien interests is stupid. Asa Hutchinson preventing the INS from doing their job in order not to upset the illegal alien lobby is stupid. It is also dangerous.

The imposition of the type of documentation you'd have to require would be more onerous on citizens and legal residents than refraining from sweeps would be on Illegals.

Who's breaking the law here?

How do we identify anybody who is illegal by the way, if this is all impossible?

Day laborer stings. Cross referencing the IRS and DHS when fake SocSec numbers show up. Lots of ways.

I'm OK with looking at some form of national ID, but not if the Illegals are further coddled.

In a Torie regime, Freepers who employed illegals with mens rea, and it would be hard in a Torie regime to employ illegals, without mens rea, would go to jail, and pay a hefty fine, that would together make it economically silly to just do it.

Thanks, and it's with mens rea.

"When the law is not enforced, it is de facto legal. Get a grip."
DE FACTO is you are WRONG-o!!!
If a large group of people decided that home invasion robberies would help them support themselves, and authorities did not have enough man power to stop them.... it would still not make the robberies legal. A good example of 'de facto' actions are gang activity in Los Angeles neighborhoods. The absence of effective law enforcement does not change the fact that a crime has been committed.
I think you must be an illegal Torie, or have a horse in this race to say the least.

" (Excerpt 2)
Rep. Joe Baca, a Democrat whose district includes Ontario, was among the federal officials to question the arrests and attended the meeting in Washington. "I would like to thank undersecretary Hutchinson for his quick response,"
Joe Baca doesn't realise that he is supposed to represent the CITIZENS of his district!

Well we are getting closer here. I would be pleased to show my ID to the authorites anytime I am asked. If necessary, I would laminate my birth certificate. No problem. If I am abused, I will just sue the perps ass off. I love America.

Fifth - require every taxpayer funded program to determine the applicant's legal status before any assistance is considered and require agencies to report fraudulent applicants to authorities.

Good idea, but, IIRC, the Supreme Court has already ruled that we must educate younger illegal aliens.

Also, states (like CA) give aid without checking federal immigration status.

Glad to see you choose to use personal slander as opposed to illuminating your position. You disseminate (reviewing your posts) in many directions on this issue and make absolutely no sense. You also speak of yourself in the third person, which makes me question your sanity.
Also, I don't do 'meds' so you can have all the Prozac to yourself, but thanks anyway.
Maybe one of your border jumpers can get you a good deal from a TJ pharmacy.

I've been through there several times, different hours of the day and night. It is always closed.

They were checking on I-5 last Friday night when I went through, and it was the first time in years that I had ever seen the PAL lane open. I've seen them checking late Friday nights, some Saturday mornings, or some Sunday afternoons. I don't usually go through on weekdays, so I wouldn't know.

But, I've never seen them check (so they're closed?) during the higher traffic "rush" hours, when checking would cause miles-long jams, nor have I seen them check when traffic is too light to form a queue (which could be really dangerous for them and for drivers).

withdraw their kids from living a normal life

No, they wouldn't need to withdraw the children. Some of the children were born here, so they are citizens and therefore entitled to walk the streets without any form of ID. We have to educate the school-age aliens, too, and the border control does not extend to schools or hospitals, so all children are free to live a relatively "normal life."
