A “progressive” Texas baker and “Food Network” star has received harsh backlash, hateful comments and death threats over cookies she was selling bearing the face of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. Haley Popp launched the blue-frosted sugar cookies which featured the Democratic Vice Presidential candidate’s likeness at her Hive Bakery ahead of Tuesday’s Vice Presidential Debate between Walz and Sen. JD Vance. “We only have a few dozen! Order online or come see us!! Who’s ready for the VP beats tonight?!,” the bakery wrote on Facebook alongside the cookie with a smiling Walz. Eight hours after sharing the post, Popp revealed...

Have you ever noticed how many things you interact with but can’t name? So did we. Key Takeaways The world is full of unassuming things that someone once had to name. These names come from a long history of craftsmen, mythology, and thoughtful observers. From aglets to vagitus, we discuss the history of nine such fascinating names. =================================================================== The world is full of things. So many things. It’s mind-boggling the number of things out there that we pay little to no attention to. For instance, even avid readers probably don’t stop to consider those tiny strips of cloth at the...

BASEBALL MEMOSIn the early years of baseball, fielders wore no gloves Manly men were toughened, their callosities well-loved But soon enough reason prevailed and leather became the norm And the Last Real Man found a mitt and feared not to conform. There must have been a Memo Saying “Men, we’ll still be Men; But bruised and broken fingers Cannot swing an autograph pen”Yet what they did with their new gloves boggles the mind today As the innings ended they dropped them on the grass and let them lay You can see them in old films—for fifty years they tempted fate...

The Disney legend and his late brother, Robert, also worked on 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,' and they wrote more songs for movie musicals than anyone in history.Richard M. Sherman, the Oscar-winning songwriter who partnered with his late brother to craft tunes for such Disney classics as Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Jungle Book, died Saturday. He was 95. Sherman, who also co-wrote “It’s a Small World (After All)” — considered the most performed song ever — as well as “You’re Sixteen,” a chart-topper for Ringo Starr, died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles of age-related illness,...

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — The author of “Little Women” may have been even more productive and sensational than previously thought. Max Chapnick, a postdoctoral teaching associate at Northeastern University, believes he found about 20 stories and poems written by Louisa May Alcott under her own name as well as pseudonyms for local newspapers in Massachusetts in the late 1850s and early 1860s. One of the pseudonyms is believed to be E. H. Gould, including a story about her house in Concord, Massachusetts, and a ghost story along the lines of the Charles Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol.” He also found...

An Ode to Perseverance and Ingenuity Written by Nicolas Randazzo, Postdoctoral Scientist, University of AlbertaIn the vast expanse where dreams take flight, A tale unfolds of courage and might. Mars, the distant red planet's embrace, Witnesses a duo, bound by space. In the history of the cosmos, their story engraved, Perseverance and Ingenuity, bold and brave. Their legacy echoes, inspiring the souls, To reach for the stars, to achieve their goals.Perseverance, a wanderer on alien soil, Unraveling mysteries, with unyielding toil. Its robotic arm, a gentle touch bestowed, Collecting samples, where the martian past’s secrets flowed. But lo, a companion, the aerial...

Welcome to the world of distinction A world where I am I and you are you Where everybody’s got a point of view Rise above the fear of contention Listen to the beauty in diversity Let everybody play their part from the inner melody We’re living in a symphony Gonna make it through this stormy weather I know there’s something higher holding us together One family made to last forever Just hold tight it’’ll be alright I love you like brother Listening to the thunder and the lightning Together with the rain and the blowing trees See how the colors...

This poem was written by a 14 year old Irish girl in defiance of trans ideology erasing women. We will not be silent. We are women. We are warriors of steel. Woman is something no man will ever feel. Here is the full text for those not wanting to click on the video I Am Not a Dress: We are women, we are warriors of steel, Woman is something no man will ever feel, Woman is not a skill that any man can hone, Woman is our word, and it is ours alone, I am not a dress to be...

Some of you know me and most don't. I have been writing songs since I was a turd, ( i have library of congress cred, and get royalty pay) although I have been a pipefitter for over 30 years and these days i have settled into carpentry. I have met some amazing people in my travels. I played in bars when I was 16. I am a multi-instrumentalist, just mostly strings. Country, blues, rock. Anyways, I found this dude Tom McDonald recently. I have never been into rap, but his lyrics are astute. I hope you listen and give him...

A poignant image of a bald eagle perched atop a US soldier's gravestone has become an internet hit after it was posted online on Memorial weekend. The giant bird of prey, America's national emblem, was photographed after flying down and landing in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minnesota. The powerful image was tweeted by the Department of Veterans Affairs on Sunday as the nation paid tribute to men and women killed at war.

Modernism is a reactionary culture, a fact that I demonstrated by pointing in detail to the works of a dozen leading Modernist figures including T.S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, James Joyce, W.B. Yeats, Pablo Picasso, and others. In all of these writers and artists, there was a similar rejection of all that is truly modern: a democratic capitalist society in which ordinary citizens seek freedom and opportunity for themselves and their families, including economic, religious, and political liberty.
