This Is Yet Another Piece Of Evidence That Electric Vehicles Just Aren’t Working Out

Can we just stop the electric vehicle nonsense already?

A TikTok video making the rounds shows a massive line of drivers in Burbank, California, waiting to get their vehicles charged with some kilowatts at a local power bank … and when I say massive, it was massive.

It’s like when people are lined up and ready to stomp each other on Black Friday when the doors open, or Philadelphia Refereeagles fans in a line outside from 3:30 a.m. waiting to get the latest jersey (you know how bat-ish crazy those people are). Better yet … it was like when I was in Vegas a few years ago and waited in a gargantuan line to check into a Hilton before I got completely hammered on an incredible amount of alcohol later that night.

Ahh … fun times.

But yeah! It was like all of that, except with vehicles.

Imagine living in Miami with an electric vehicle. Like hell, the traffic is already out of this world in that city, and then on top of that, you have to deal with those lines after already dealing with said traffic?

And just imagine if your electric vehicle died after waiting in traffic and in a line in the middle of a humid South Florida summer…

Again I ask: Why the hell would anybody want to own an electric vehicle?

Why on Earth would anybody want an electric vehicle in 2023?

Yep, I’ve seen someone stranded in an EV (in Chicago, in the winter), and roadside assistance had to send a car with a giant battery bank stuffed in the back to give them a recharge.

I too now have a mix of both ICE 2 cycle/4 cycle power equipment pieces on my 12 acre property.

For certain applications I find that I actually prefer the Stihl battery powered tool. The hedge trimmer is a perfect application because I use it two or three days a year. The rest of the time it hangs on the wall in the shed.

When I blew the piston on my 1990 Stihl 026 chainsaw I bought a 12” Stihl battery operated saw. It takes the same battery as the hedge trimmer. It is perfect for limbing. I also can hold it above my head with one hand. It is NOT made for cutting down a 12-24” diameter Red Oak tree. However, once that tree is laying on the ground it is great for cutting all the limbs off the log.

I too have a Shark battery operated vacuum cleaner. It came with two batteries. I can easily vacuum the whole 2700 sq foot house with BOTH batteries. Especially since it is all hardwood and slate floors. However, IF we want to really clean the three wool oriental carpets, it is time to pull out the plug in Dyson. FYI, I bought the Shark because the company that cleans my office used that to vacuum a 14M sq ft space with two batteries.

Battery powered EV cars need to vastly improve three things before I ever consider buying one. First, NOT catch on fire. Second, have 450+ mile range. Charge in ten minutes at widely available spots.

That was Staten Island after Super storm Sandy. A once in a century occurrence.

I can send you a picture I took last winter during a ONE day power outage in NH. It was a Tesla being charged in a neighbor’s driveway with his gasoline generator.

I saw it on my way to the gas station to fill up my two cans to run my gas generator. I stopped and took a picture of it just as the owner came out of his house. He gave me a dirty look because he knew the IRONY of the picture.

So you seek to equate people waiting in line to get gas to power their emergency power generators following a hurricane, with people on a typical day waiting in line to charge their EV’s?

Just stop already.

“I have 32 acres, which is why I use ICE powered weed whacker , chainsaw and zero turn mower. I will pull out battery powered stuff for quick trims around the close in landscaping around the house, though.”

Totally agree. I don’t have 32 acres to weed whack or blow, so battery powered tools work great and I like them much better than my previous gas ones. Way less hassle, no stinky fumes, no need to worry about gas or whether it’s going to start. Just push the button and go.

I’m with you - go with whatever suits the purpose and let the people choose.

So if you like EVs and they work for you, fine, if not then use gas. People should be free to choose without the government butting in.

I myself am thinking of getting a plug-in hybrid and am in the process of getting rooftop solar. Gives me options. I figure since 90% of my driving is around town, I’ll hardly use any gas. But for the times I want to take a longer trip I don’t have to worry about range anxiety.

Here's another reason the Government wants everyone in expensive EVs, even if you can't afford them.

For me charging time is more important than range. If I can get 200 miles in 5 minutes, that would be great.

Even in long trips I stop every couple hours for a quick break, so charging then while I go pee would be no problem.

The goal is to eliminate freedom of movement.

EVs are harder to push, BTW, due to the extra weight.

Biden’s war on oil manifested in gas lines. After all, another genius democrat, Carter, predicted “peak oil” to occur about 40 years ago and downhill from there.

Simple solution, adopt battery swapping technology like NIO. You would never have to worry about having a degraded battery and it takes 3-5 minutes to swap them out at any swapping station.

and 5 gorillas couldn't push it out of the way cause of added battery weight - Rivian = 8500lbs gross weight; tesla = 5600 lbs curb weight...etc

At one of my hobby forums, people use Imgur a lot for photo hosting to post those in threads. Total collection of douchebags there (Imgur).

Had a good laugh today seeing heads explode in the comments to the following over the contradiction of hating Musk and loving eco-friendly (yeah, sure) EVs. Hahaha.

I hate my Dyson vacuum cleaner, that cost several hundred dollars. It’s good as a dustbuster replacement, or to clean a couple of rugs. But for serious vacuuming of wall to wall carpet or even large rooms with rugs, I still pull out my old $120 corded vacuum which is much more powerful and does a better job.

I just bought a high $$ V15 as a replacement that supposedly wasn't working. The V7 attachments fit the the new V15 which has a battery that does the whole house easily (1500 sq ft- retirement vacation home)

The first thing I do with a new house is pull out the rugs and put in wood floors. So easily to clean AND I can't stand to see nothing but a clean, freshly mopped floor.

A new EBAY V7 battery has twice the original amp-hour battery so it is used as a corner/hard to get to vacuum.

The point is the battery operated appliances are fine with high $$ batteries BUT NEVER AS GOOD AS THE plug in machines for hard jobs like wall to wall carpet. Ditto gas vs. Electric cars.

If I ever own an electric car it will be because the battery range is down under 200 miles and it is worthless to the original owner. But to me who only uses a vehicle to run to the store etc., it will be fine charging it off solar panels which will make it low cost to operate. The gas vehicle will remain lower mileage and it will only be used for long range tasks.

Completely agree with your post. And one of the reasons I so complain is that the high $$ battery part is a show stopper for me. I’m old. I’m used to a cord.

Heck, back in the day I used a cord powered electric lawn mower. It had lots of power And my mowing pattern was designed around managing the cord. Worked great.

That being said, my cordless drill is WAY better than one with a cord. I have two relatively cheap batteries, so even when building my 20x40 deck I never ran out of power. While using one battery the other was charging. And managing a cord around that would have been a serious mess.
