'Are you kidding me?' Blue Jays pitcher sparks FURIOUS traveling etiquette debate after slamming United Airlines for making his pregnant wife 'pick up their kids' mess' on a flight... so what do YOU think?

Plane etiquette is a hotly contested topic that continues to get the internet in a spin but Toronto Blue Jays player Anthony Bass has just added a lot more fuel to the fiery debate after tweeting about his recent flight saga.

The 35-year-old, who is from Michigan but plays for the MLB team in Canada, posted a Twitter photo on Sunday of his two toddler daughters on a flight playing on electronic devices with popcorn strewn all over the floor.

In the accompanying caption, the sportsman - whose spouse was traveling alone - explained that the flight attendant on the trip had 'made' his wife clean up their kids' food mess, while voicing outrage over the situation.

'The flight attendant @united just made my 22 week pregnant wife traveling with a five year old and two year old get on her hands and knees to pick up the popcorn mess by my youngest daughter,' he tweeted, before adding: 'Are you kidding me?!?!'

While Bass expressed his outrage over the situation, many Twitter users called him out and said that it is the responsibility of any parent to clean up the floor, not the cabin crew's.

One commenter and a fellow father wrote: 'I have three kids, just flew coach 12 hours, and was able to clean up after them - for every mess. It’s called parenting.

'Do you expect park janitors to clean up after your pet? No; Your child, your responsibility.

'The argument I am making is about expectations and entitlements. Flight crew aren't our slaves; they will help if asked, not assumed.'

Once again people are coming out against American Airlines.

Personally I think the mom should look after the kids and not let them make a mess in the first place.

FReepers what do you all think about this?

I think the mom could have had the 5-year-old help clean up the popcorn. Make it a game for them.

There is a thought. I would have allowed a snack that created a mess to begin with but teaching them to clean up after themselves is better.

I was just about to write the same thing. The five year old can help, and the two year old will probably follow along.

Isn’t that part of the reason they have planes cleaned between flights? Doesn’t the crew have a bissel broom or something? No one should have to crawl around on the floor picking stuff up with their hands. Unruly kids or not!

Yes, to control your kids. Yes, to not giving kids things on a flight that will cause a major mess.

Sorry I am with the Blue Jays pitcher on this one. Hands and knees...no. Hand the mom a bissel broom...yes.

Dude can afford a nanny to help.

Common courtesy to clean up your own mess. Get the kids to help and they won’t be some messy next time.

If you have been to any sporting event, you know the fans feel completely entitled to just let their crap lay there when the event is over. Yes, there are people for cleaning up, but plenty of people don’t even try. Pathetic

I think these kids are getting poor parenting. What kind of a attitude example is it to allow kids to go through life leaving their trash for others to clean up? In our family kids bus their tables at fast food venues and police their trash when on outings.
1. Respect for others of every walk of life should underpin everyone’s interactions with the world.
2. Leave nothing but footprints,Take nothing but memories.

This pitcher is oblivious to the immorality and disrespect of his attitude of entitlement.
I did a bit of internet investigation. His wife’s is a high risk pregnancy, he should have cleaned the popcorn himself. Their kids their responsibility to clean up.

I hear ya. On the rare occasion that my family and I go to the cinema, we are almost always the only ones carrying our refuse to the garbage cans after the movie. One time, we did see another family doing same, and I of course gave the father the silent head nod acknowledgement, which was promptly returned. White guy code. Couldn’t make an ok sign, hands were full.

exactly the kids were obviously out of control and the mom should of been a mom and stopped them to begin with and barring that should of told the KIDS to pick up their mess!

Mom was probably on her phone and not paying attention while the kids trashed the plane.

Just got off oasis of the seas cruise. While waiting for a show. Two kids around 5 to 7 ate popcorn. All the while dropping popcorn on the glistening floors. Not only did they not pick up the popcorn. One kid saw it and proceeded to step on it grinding it to powder on the floor. The parents either were oblivious or didn’t care.

I have eight daughters. Pretty much all separated by year (or less) each time, with bonus twins at the end with a big gap.

I’ve had them all by myself, and we’ve never made that kind of mess.

Of course she should have cleaned up.

But she shouldn’t have caused such a mess in the first place.

Sometimes kids are bratty. Doesn’t mean the parent is bad. Poor princess Kate had a child showing off tantrums during the Jubilee in front of millions of eyes.

Maybe the kid threw a fit..threw the popcorn..and maybe the mom did try to get her to clean it up and she said no. Then what. If you hit the kid or spank it that brings in other issues. We don’t know what went on before airline said clean it up. Could have been a mom that tried her best..or could be an entitled jerk who didn’t bother.

She should TRY to not to let her kids make a mess. But kids will make a mess. And the same Karens who judge you for not knowing how to control your kids will judge you if you make them cry or make a scene disciplining them. (I usually probably erred on the side of light discipline.)

If you act entitled to people cleaning up your mess, they’ll get angry. If you approach them FIRST, or apologetically, you get better treatment. And once in a while, you encounter someone who maybe is already a little tired of this stuff, or reads you the wrong way, but who ain’t dealing with your crap.

My kid always hated sitting down through dinner at restaurants. It’s not like he’d go over to other tables and be disruptive. He has some neurological issues and handled sitting in other places, including daycare, but their chairs are built for small people. So I don’t know if it was just a quirk or part of the way he was wired or me being too soft. But because he was otherwise very well behaved, I tended to avoid fighting with him over it, to avoid bringing attention to it. But there was one or two times when he ended up getting a lot of food on the ground, discovered as I was getting up. I just apologized and left an extra large tip. But I apologized in person, so I didn’t come across like, “I have money (I didn’t have much!!!), so the rules don’t apply to me! Here, have some cash, peasant!”

The entitlement attitude of some people never ceases to amaze me. How was it humiliating for his wife to clean up after their child, but not humiliating for the airline attendant to do so? If the attendants spent all their time cleaning up after the passengers they would have no time for doing anything else. Also, popcorn kernels can be slippery. It’s a safety hazard to have them scattered on the floor of the plane.

One more thing. Why couldn’t the children be instructed to clean up their own mess? Ages two and five are plenty old enough to follow instructions to do so (although you would have to remind them not to eat the kernels that had been on the floor).

I should also point out that this was foody stuff, like ketchuppy fries, and even though I’m very inclined to pick up my own messes, I’d need their equipment to do so. I think I even asked and the waitress was like, “no, I’ll get it.” Maybe the second time, I went straight up to the desk and said what had happened. The point is if you don’t act like you’re entitled, apologize and make amends, people will always feel better about you.
