With below zero last week and snow, more snow tomorrow, I'm staying off the bike for now. I used to be fearless in any weather, but hit some ice, crashed and broke my leg in 3 places.

I hope the conditions are good for Winter Bike To Work Day.

Cold has passed here in coastal North Carolina. I was thinking of airing up my bike just yesterday as the weather clears off.

Don’t block traffic.
Obey traffic controls.
Stay off of sidewalks.
Control your aggression.
Don’t run into pedestrians.
Don’t attack cars or drivers.
Don’t ride hopped up on coffee.
.....For starters....

Any recommendations for a lightweight folding road bike suitable for a 6’5” tall rider?

Do any of you use FulGaz with your trainer? My husband uses it as well as Zwift on rainy or super cold days.

We like to sit on the porch for a glass of wine in the afternoon and listen to some rousing BlueGrass music while watching the birds and wildlife in the back meadow. When it got too cold this winter and we had to move indoors for our wine hour, we decided to hook the laptop to the bigTV in the Den with an HDMI cord and run the FulGaz recorded video rides along with our music. Unlike Zwift, this is real video recorded by a GoPro mounted on a rider’s bike. We have watched and fully enjoyed rides videoed all over the world. Hubby then later repeats the better ones on his trainer.

Children’s toys don’t belong in the street. They are out in bad weather, at night, 6am, etc. If you hit one it could ruin your life.

There were two gentleman in my town... One in his 90’s the other in his late 80’s... They crossed the road and got struck by a car and killed. Crossing the street is dangerous enough in itself... Think of how many times these two gentleman managed to cross the road in their lives without getting struck by a car... But in the end, they did get struck by one.

Adding two wheels underneath your rear-end and attempting to negotiate traffic that includes vehicles that weigh thousands of pounds travelling at much higher speeds is much more dangerous than crossing the street. There were 536,412 bicycle injuries in 2019... The last ‘normal’ year for biking... And 1,200 deaths in 2020... So, if you want to bike around... Go for it... But you are taking a chance that is avoidable... If you don’t ride a bike, your chances of getting in an bicycle accident are greatly reduced.

BTW - I don’t jump out of airplanes either... My chances of death from a parachute not opening, is greatly reduced by not jumping out of an airplane. I could get hit by somebody jumping out of an airplane, who’s chute doesn’t open and they land on me... But, I’ll take my chances with that.

On the other hand, worry warts die too. Bicycling is a great form of transportation, it is fun, it is exercise, and is a healthy part of many a robust life.

I don’t worry much about anything... I avoid activities that may conclude with my demise... Thus, a reduced reason to be bothered worrying that much about anything.

Usually. The thread itself isn't anti-cycling, but people always show up and shit in the pool.

Every thread about cycling turns into that.
