Okay, I’ll admit that I’m a bit confused here. Egyptians branding their slaves was something that was a fact back when I was in school and learning history of different cultures. When did that information disappear and why is it just now being rediscovered?
Zahi “Zowie” Hawass has been claiming for years that there was no slavery in ancient Egypt, and Egyptologists who don’t play ball don’t work in Egypt.
it disappeared when Egypt started to pretend there were never (jewish) slaves, but (from wiki) RamsesIII said of captured foreigners (Meditteranians and Sea Peoples), “ I imprisoned their leaders in fortresses bearing my name, and I added to them chief archers and tribal chiefs, branded and enslaved, tattooed with my name, their wives and children being treated in the same way.”[8]”
There are those in academia who see ancient Egypt as a sort of Wakanda-on-the-Nile, an Advanced Civilization run by Africans which gave culture and technology to the European barbarians. The idea of them owning slaves would be unthinkable.
