I sent a text message to JD Vance's election team "Is JD Vance running ads? The only ads I see on TV are Ryan's ads blasting JD?" and received the following reply: JD is meeting with folks all over the state of Ohio right now. I know you’ve been seeing a lot of TV commercials from our opponent, but there's a lot of time between now and November. We'll be making our case for why JD is the RIGHT leader for Ohio, but there is a game plan for how and when we do that. Tim Ryan’s time under the spotlight is coming - we know he’s pretending to be something he’s not. To learn more about his campaign, please visit https://jdvance.com/
“This is the most recent poll RCP has up:”
We’ll see. Not a huge fan of Vance, but Ryan is a disaster.
Because billboards win elections?
He and Oz have disappeared.
1) TV ads are extremely wasted money. You may need some, but I don’t think it’s where you put your money these days.
2) As it’s not even Labor Day, when traditionally campaigns start, I think it’s way too early to be running a lot of ads.
3) Robert Barnes, on his show last night, said he had Vance 80% to win. I agree.
4) Every year we go through this. OH is overwhelmingly red. There are Rs, Ds, and “Us” which are “unaffiliated” voters, NOT “independents.” They are kicked into the “U” bin if you don’t vote in the last primary or general election. A friend has done a massive analysis of “Us” in OH and found that when you allocate them vs. previous address voting history, Rs in the state are up about 300,000 in registration. Yes, an R can still lose if they don’t have name appeal or run a bad campaign (see Renacci’s 2020 senate campaign) but it means the D has to overcome a lot to win a statewide race.
5) I have Vance winning by 5; Trump won OH twice by over 8.
Let's keep in mind that the 1994 Republican landslide was built on Newt Gingrich's "Contract With America" -- which wasn't even released as a campaign theme until late September of that year.
IDK, but I assume the Democrat has a much bigger $$$ advantage. August is the doldrums for everything. Why waste that money now when no one is paying attention.
You’ll start seeing TV ads in September, no doubt.
Ryan sucks ass but is dominating
After all of his endorsements, if the Republicans lose the Senate because of Trump’s bad endorsements, then i agree. He should quit.
Ryan’s their top-tier recruit. Can we say the same with Vance? Jordan sat it out. Speakership is out for him as McCarthy gets anointed. Jordan will only run if the other senator retires in ‘24. He needs it handed to him. Wgere’s the fight?
Remember double headers in baseball? Teams wouldn’t put 2 aces against each other in one game. They’d go for the sure win and try their luck in the other game. Democrats don’t play that way so we’re always on defense.
With guys like Soros pumping money into the ‘rat candidates’ campaigns, it is easy to see why you are seeing more ads from the ‘rats.
I was shocked that Ryan invoked the name of Trump favorably in his ads. Half of the GOP would shy away from that. His campaign must not think the democrat base would be bothered by that.
Ryan has presidential aspirations
No, because candidates that don’t respond to supporters lose elections.
All the “Just wate til Layburr Day!!1!” types who are acting so calm and reasonable as they whistle past the graveyard, will do the same thing in one month and tell us that we really should wait until October to be concerned about the polls (and don’t forget: polls are always wrong anyway) and about the GOP being off the air with their ads.
Then they’ll move the goalposts to “late October” and finally “the only poll that matters is on Election Day!”. That last one is correct of course, but it doesn’t mean that putting the blinders on all the way up to election day is a smart thing to do.
Ryan is a sneaky faux-”moderate” candidate and is by far the best the Rats could have done in Ohio because he talks a good game and lots of independents and even many RINOs will willingly take the bait.
Ohio, despite being an allegedly “overwhelmingly red” state, is one that Obama won twice and which another slimy politician (Sherrod Brown) ALSO has won twice so far, the last time as recently as 2018 even as we were being assured that Trump’s 2016 win meant that Brown was a dead duck.
There are always excuses when Republicans lose a race like this which they should have easily won, and there’ll be more of the same if they blow it in “overwhelmingly red” Ohio in 2022; anyone who is convinced that Ryan can’t *possibly* win isn’t paying enough attention.
Vance is a great guy I hope he wins.
So endorsing a RINO would a “good” endorsement? What
gutless unprincipled buffoonery....
You RINO lovers love to get us all stirred up.....
Here are some more recent polls, some of which were done by partisan Democrat firms but one -- which nobody is going to like any better -- was supposedly from a Republican outfit:
