Our smartphones have become such an essential part of our lives that it can sometimes be hard to leave them alone, even when they are charging. But using your phone while you are charging it can be hazardous. It can threaten your life and cause potential damage to your phone. There have been several reports of people either being very seriously injured or killed due to explosions when using their phone while charging.
1. Overheating If you keep using your phone while charging it, it will become prone to overheating – a problem that could cause the harmful chemicals present in the battery to leak, which could cause the battery to explode or the phone could switch off permanently.
2. Creates A Bulge Using your phone while it is charging can cause the battery to expand in size which will eventually lead to the battery exploding. If you feel a slight bump at the back of your phone, there are good chances that its battery has started to bulge already.
3. Affects Charging Capacity While the battery of your phone can last for 18 hours after being fully charged, always using it while charging will spoil the battery, so eventually, you might get just 7 hours of battery life after it is fully charged.
4. Messes Up The Charger If you constantly use your phone while it’s charging, you might end up ruining your charger. You may need to get a new one eventually.
5. Hurt Yourself You are at risk of electrocuting yourself while using your phone when it’s charging. You can lose your life if your battery explodes or you get a severe electric shock.

I saw a girl sit her car and talk on her phone while the gas was pumping into her car. The pumps are made to cut off once the tank is full. From what I understand, due to a malfunction, this time it didn’t and and approx 5 gallons of gas spewed onto the pavement before another car’s driver walked over and shut it off. She insisted to the clerk she shouldn’t have to pay for the extra gas. I was present for the tail end of the discussion and the clerk was not amused. So for that idiot, yes, talking on the phone while pumping gas was not exactly a good idea.
Using a mobile phone in any situation is dangerous. People walk off cliffs, fall down stairs, walk into traffic...
In the bathtub...yes!
As an electrical engineer, I believe it’s a safe bet that the 5v 2.1A (maximum) output from a cell phone charger would not electrocute an infant mouse, much less a human.
Prove me wrong.
Keeping your phone connected to the charger (whether you're using the phone or not) once the battery has reached 100% charge is not a good idea.
Never use your phone while charging.
Come to a complete stop. Sheath your sword. Answer the phone. Complete the call. Unsheath your sword. then resume your charge.
No, the signs are there regarding radio-induced sparks.
Some British science show did everything they could to cause such a condition. Didn’t work. Ll
No need for such unnecessary sign. Although best to NOT use cell phone near gas dispenser. Just leave it in your pocket while holding the gas dispenser, or go sit in your car if you must make a phone call. The gas will shut off automatically when tank is full.
I agree 100%. But a minute spark is possible with cell phone malfunction.
Power flow is seriously regulated in modern devices. It’s not going to draw dangerous current just because it’s charging and calling at once.
Battery bulging was a problem with the Samsung Galaxy Androids such as mine and it had nothing to do with using it while charging.......It was just a flaw in the phone.
As for my new Galaxy A71, I'm still using the easy charging pad I used with the last phone......
AAAAAAAIIIEEEEEEEEEEE!
AAAAAAHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGG!
FEAR! FEAR! FEAR! FEAR!
OOOOOHHHH DA FEARS! DA FEARS!
DEY PLAGUES ME! DA FEARS!
NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.

If this kind of “news” makes you quake in your Guccis, for sure it ain’t The Spirit of God moving in your heart. Must be that other dude.
Does anybody else remember when hospital rules prohibited cell phone use? The thought was that using a cell phone in the hospital with blow out circuits and expensive technical equipment. Or something like that.
What am I supposed to see in that photo? Looks like a guy getting a credit card out of his wallet at a gas pump. Explain?
Batteries don't last forever though. Slowly, they will lose storage capacity and at some point the battery capacity will decrease enough to notice. Typically, this will be after some several thousand cycles I think.
Quite awhile back, the battery capacity on my IPhone 6 became pretty poor. I took it to the Apple store and a quick diagnostic showed the battery had 5000 recharge cycles on it. IIRC the Apple tech said the typical (or rated?) was about 2500 cycles - I invested $100 in the phone for a new battery and bought another 18mo device life.
I use my phones heavily and keep them a long time. iPhones rock, diagnostics are no charge and repairs are available if you choose the investment.
What is more dangerous is sitting in the car while fueling, then getting back out. During cold dry conditions, for those of you who live in areas where there is real winter, it is easy to build a static charge which can be an ignition source.
Years ago, the San Antonio Fire Department did a demonstration for KSAT television news on an unusually cold day where a fireman caused a static discharge near the filler inlet while fueling. Vapors ignited. If left alone, the vapors will eventually extinguish. What some people do however is remove the filler nozzle - when gasoline is still flowing - and things can go very wrong quickly. If you absolutely have to go back in the car when fueling (not recommended, regardless of how cold it is), touch metal after you get out of the car, but still some distance from the filler in order to discharge any static electricity.
It will not blow out circuits, but it could introduce RFI to certain instruments such as EKG’s. No, sparks will not fly form medical electronics like some cheesy special effects.
Does this mean using the mobile phone to make phone calls, or any use? Is it safe to read the latest FR articles while your cell phone is charging?
