Louisiana church expecting 2,000 at Easter service despite coronavirus: 'Satan and a virus will not stop us'

While many churches across the nation plan to hold their Easter services online Sunday, a Louisiana pastor says his church near Baton Rouge is expecting a crowd of 2,000 or more despite federal coronavirus guidance advising social distancing. “Satan and a virus will not stop us,” Rev. Tony Spell told Reuters. “God will shield us from all harm and sickness. We are not afraid. We are called by God to stand against the Antichrist creeping into America’s borders. We will spread the Gospel.” Spell has gained attention in recent days for insisting on holding in-person services as the coronavirus pandemic has left more than 14,700 dead in the United States and as cases nationwide top 431,000.

People are just wonky. A lot of those poor folks will be the most vulnerable with all kinds of underlying illnesses.

Will be sad to hear later if any of them fall to the damn ChiCom Virus.

Gee, there’s thing thing called the internet. Put the service up live. It’s easy to join in. My church has done it for weeks.

Rev. Tony Spell told Reuters. “God will shield us from all harm and sickness.”

That kind of stupidity got thousands killed in 1918 and millions in the plagues. This ‘Rev.’ should be sued for all the medical bills stemming from this service.

Agree with this being stupid. This actually gives Christians a bad reputation.

His church is a multiracial Pentecostal church that has nothing to do with Appalachian snake handlers

I fully expect the church, and not the taxpayers, will pay all the medical bill of those who are infected and the service and all the medical bills of the people they infect.

Lol and they will never understand a Pentecostal

Might as well be Martians

To Catholics the Church is integral

To Pentecostals nope

I’m in between

Two areas with the largest coronavirus impacts are those cities that encouraged people to attend Chinese New Year parades in January. Looking at you, Nancy and de Blasio.

BTW, reading an excellent book: “The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History” by Barry.

Reading this book will startle you with the parallels to our pandemic and illustrate why so many professionals were scared by the emergence of this influenza.

One of the hardest hit cities was Philadelphia where the city refused to cancel a parade to sell war bonds. Three days later the hospitals were filled to overflowing and the deaths began shortly thereafter.

Those that claim there is no precedence for the current restrictions will be surprised to learn of the measures that were taken against that influenza, far in excess of what we see today.

On behalf of the Church of Scientology, we’re with you, man. Like you, we believe that nothing can stop us.

Oh but plenty on FR are now trying to shame you into not having such thoughts least you aren’t a real (man, American, whatever).

I can only suspect the follow-up stories on this shin-dig wont get mentioned much here if it goes south for them.

No they won't. Bel Edwards and the newspapers have lost this battle, bigly. The day after they arrested him, he turned right around and held a service. He's not missed one since. The police chief and DA who preferred the charges won't be re-elected. The case will never go to trial. Bel Edwards was asked on CNN about it, and he dodged the question.

If the people I saw in pics of this church are representative, I didn’t see a single member over about 15 that had a BMI under 30.

Grant through Richmond comes to mind if this gets loose in that church.

Wow, a thread run by Boot Lickers?

There isn’t a shred of evidence that this virus is some sort of doomsday illness. We’ve been told and promised now for about 6 weeks that millions of people in the USA would die, Governor of Cali said 1 million would die in his state alone!

But every 10 days... “we promise”....everyone will die soon, please be patient, and listen to Big Brother.

Hell with that, people realize that they’ve been had, worse than y2k, but unlike y2k there is no end date with this horrible hoax.

Numbers and stats in the future will easily prove that the only thing that actually died in this hoax were the livelihoods and families of law abiding citizens.

Attending a ceremony for Easter is hardly need for a Government to assert their power and authority. This same govt has allowed homelessness from bums/drugs/alcohol in the absolute most unsanitary methods on earth, like it’s 3rd world...but even now, not a single inconvenience for bums and illegals...they go on like the privileged and protected class that they are.

Freerepublic has either been invaded by fanatics, left wingers, bots, zombies...? But man, if you actually think you’re a conservative and you condone the police state based upon this corona virus hype? You don’t deserve the gift of being an American that you were born with.
