Might not a hair dryer work just as well without scorching? On most any mask material?

From this discussion, it appears they took into account ventilation:

Cargill Meat Solutions, a 900-worker plant in Hazleton, Pa., that packages meat in plastic for supermarket shelves in Pennsylvania and surrounding states, has shut down temporarily after 130 hourly workers tested positive for COVID-19 and a rash of employees called out sick, a union leader said.

I remember an early video from the Harry Chen account that showed a HCW sitting at a desk ‘drying’ their mask/face goggles with a hair dryer.

Hmmm...

So.

How long does it live on the meat in the packages...

We were going to do a brief grocery pickup to replace the dairy/meat we’ve used but now wondering about that...

I can do without dairy.

I NEED to find out if our state teaching hospital, where most of the patients with this are, is using that protocol yet.

Federal investigation launched into Holyoke Soldiers’ Home after 32 residents recently died

HOLYOKE, MASS. (WHDH) - A federal investigation has been launched into the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home to examine whether the nursing home for veterans violated the rights of residents by failing to provide them medical care generally and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts and the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division opened the investigation after 32 residents recently died, including 28 who tested positive for the coronavirus. In total, 69 residents and 68 staff members have contracted the virus as of Thursday.

I assume cooking to correct temps would kill any virus on the meat. But handle with gloves when raw maybe

I thought about that but don’t know about how much could become airborne if using a hair dryer.

A hair dryer is a heck of a lot easier for heat control, via power settings and distance adjustment vs oven convection control.

And do we really want to drag virus loaded masks through food prep areas?

Considering most meat is cooked before consuming, I would guess the usual precautions would work.

BTW, one of the first things I do when I bring meat home is wash the outside of the package with soapy water and let it sit for a minute or so and rinse it VERY well.

I wonder what ironing the mask would do.......

********************************************

Why isn’t laundering them enough? The detergent should break down the lipid envelope of the virus and kill it. Just like soap and water does when you wash your hands.

On low/no fan setting and heat source higher than 150, wouldn't even airborn virus get "cooked" before traveling even an inch or too? Or place mask in large coffee can, cut hole in lid for dryer nozzle, more uniform hot air circulation. Sounds like an easy to set up field expedient test for efficacy...much like the recent Japanese Dr. test surgical masks vs paper towel and cotton masks..

The last meat we cooked was for the chicken chili. It had been roasted at Costco, then shredded and pressure cooked in the Instapot for 40 minutes. I'm not concerned about that batch from a food safety perspective. The red beans caused significant digestive upset.

I've seen more than one meat packing plant shutdown notice this week to to CV. The meat supply is going to be impacted.

“The fact that I choose to live freely somehow threatens others?”

People like you are endangering others by refusing to abide by simple restrictions for a short period that alleviate the stresses on our HCS, which is not designed to handle a dozen simultaneous flu seasons. So you break the containment protocol, putting you selfish interests ahead of the general welfare of the rest of Americans directly and indirectly by threatening the HCS and the economy. And ultimately causing an extension of those restrictions and probably enforcement for those that do not voluntarily comply, like you.

“you put the Constitution and the Bill of Rights at risk through your weakness and sheep-like behavior.”

Not at all. I’m not the proud spreader that is violating the fundamental rights of others out of a narcissistic solipsist world view. I know this is a temporary hardship while the country is converting to a war footing and my Constitutional rights are not in jeopardy.

“What is this “stirring of the pot” that you mention?”

Exactly what you are doing. You could stay on the tard threads and let us “sheep”, AKA the adults in the room, try to understand how this virus operates and how to prepare for it. Instead you choose to come here and project your fear onto us to comfort your tiny little soul.

“Wake up, snowflake...and smell the freedom.”

I am free to protect my family - from the likes of you. Which I am doing. What rights have been taken from me that people like you didn’t already take even before this started? Selfish, narcissistic, solipsist people. Restrictions that are in place are largely voluntary, but they aren’t different from those put in place during the Spanish Flu and other pandemics and epidemics. Your faux outrage is all about you and your missed ski trips, when you should be thinking about your loved ones and your neighbors.

“Cannot you be exposed to alternate points of view?”

Absolutely. But how is calling us all weak sheep a “point of view” that benefits anybody except you, who are so fearful you have to project your fear onto others? You can come argue the statistics, the conflicting claims, whether this virus is more dangerous than the (now escalated standard) measles, what ever, as long as you are actually discussing instead of spamming derision and ignorance. But that’s not what you are doing, you are in fact spamming derision and ignorance. Which is what makes you a troll.

“As to being a “troll”, I take that as a compliment if coming from the likes of you.”

Glad to improve your otherwise miserable, self-absorbed troll day, even if it was merely negative attention for you that did it.

“Hopefully, you some day gain strength and be free.”

I will close with saying I am free. So is my family. And my friends, and most of the people here. You are a prisoner of your insouciance. And we are also clearly stronger than you - we have the strength to care for others as well as ourselves.

Ya.

Going to assume it’s contaminated, likely not going to be ‘airborne’ since meat is sticky. No different than ecoli or salmonella. bleach prep areas after, 91% hand sanitizer for a minute or two then wash hands thoroughly.

It’s the cheese I’m still not sure about.

I wonder how much of the ‘outrage’ is simply disruption of business and other ‘extracurricular relationships’. Ahem. ‘relationships’.
