Sounds like liberal socialism doesn’t want medical procedures.

There is a growing pressure to reduce the amount of recommended treatment. When you don’t have enough doctors to serve everyone you pretend that a lot of patients don’t really need service.

“They are the strongest evidence yet that tens of thousands of costly stent procedures and bypass operations each year are unnecessary”

BS. I had 5 stents put in after a heart attack 13 years ago. I feel very good, quite active and no chest pains.

I’m very grateful to the inventors of the procedure and the doctors that put them in.

When it comes out of Harvard...*and* Yale...*and* Columbia...*and* Hopkins...*and* Mayo Clinic...*and* Stanford I'll believe it. Until then I'll assume that this is straight out of Obama’s “at some point we'll just give her a pain pill” movement.

No need to rush folks. Remember this is Obamacare. Just take a pill -don’t fix it. Just be sure your wills and papers are in order.

This is actually a vey important study. The truth is that physicians have become very skeptical of the use of hugely expensive procedures and medications. The studies that are published in medical journals are themselves often sponsored by the companies that make medications or the equipment used in the procedures. The medical journals themselves are full of advertisements from those same companies.

When it comes to heart attack, nothing but nothing has more effect diminishing the incidence and severity of heart attacks than preventing and discontinuing cigarette smoking. No mammal evolved with the capacity to deal with chronic elevated blood levels of carbon monoxide. After that its the use of aspirin , beta blockers and blood pressure control. Perhaps, just perhaps the use of statins has been beneficial in some.

Its good to be a bit skeptical and reflect why the herd advocates and uses all these expensive drugs and procedures.

People with severe but stable heart disease from clogged arteries
___________________________________________________

“Stable heart disease”

How disgusting! Since when is it fine to normalize heart disease?

How about stop eating animals and switch to whole food, plant based diet that is proven as the ONLY diet not only to stop, but reverse clogged arteries.

I had a heart attack almost 3 years ago. I had catheterization procedure which showed some clogging. The worst artery was at 50%. Doctors didn’t do stent. They said they don’t consider it unless blockage is 70% or more. Even then they check how well blood is flowing through tight area.

I was put on cholesterol lowering drug, aspirin and calcium channel blockers to lower blood pressure and to prevent spasms. I was given exercise instruction and diet changes. My recent stress test indicates my heart is working great. Better than most men my age who have not had heart attack.I exercise regularly needing to increase difficulty constantly. Currently set elliptical to get 10 mets or 180 watts to get heart rate high enough.

The one psychological affect is that if I had a stent I think I would have been less anxious after my heart attack because I would have felt something was fixed.

I was told that not having a stent means I need more frequent stress test checkups .

Incredibly massive study fully vindicates rate of heart procedures:

What is the average life span of people with a family history of heart problems, and what was that lifespan in 1957?

The stents alone— without coatings to prevent re-growth of coronary lesions, was found to increase lesion formation and shorten time to another heart attack from loosened atheromas (caused by the trauma of the stent implant to the endothelium, and oxidized LDL getting into space as the endothelium grows over the stent).

The biochemistry— non-invasive, and genetic work in coronary artery disease— particularly the Vascular Biology Working Group, is a wonder of modern medicine. Can reverse coronary disease if correctly diagnosed and quantified, instead of finding out about it in an ER and needing emergency stents.

I had a quadruple heart bypass surgery. No fun and the recovery is long. Sometimes stent implants don’t remove an artery blockage so surgery is necessary.

Freepers as usual l talking so much shit about something they know nothing about

The augist earnestess....lol....damn I’m laughing so hard I might die..

Bad heart and all

Freepers on here who know something about this subject like I do

God love you

The rest of you are just plain ignorant however well intended or pithy

Stents and bypasses can save the life of people dying

Doctors don’t do these procedures as a prophylactic with minor heart disease which btw we all have to some degree

Nor is all angina clogged artery related

I hate to break it to all the Christian Barnards here but you know what makes you die of heart disease more than anything

Your DNA

after than smoking or being a Walmart slob being twice what your body weight ought to be

But if you’re the latter a stent or CABG might save you from death during an MI

this study is nonsense

Cardiologists refrain from procedures when someone has a heart attack only if they are not a candidate for the relief and that happens....me for example

Blockage too severe or in a place a bypass can’t help

No medicine will fix that ...the notion diet will fix it is laughable....plenty of good eaters with heart disease and plenty of slobs without much ischemia

DNA is an unfair lottery trust me

You can be bitter you got bad cardiac dna or you can be grateful like me it’s only my heart and I didn’t get the one inch penis DNA instead

If your heart attack damaged heart is severe you can pop nitro or Renexa but your train is pulling into the station trust me baring procedural relief

A heart attack victim with no recourse for remedy is going to die unless very lucky and collateral arteries grow very quickly

It happens but it’s rare and collaterals which keep you alive aren’t a real fix...they just keep you alive awhile

Stents have vastly reduced CABG procedures and trust me that’s a good thing

Most important thing anyone who has an MI can do is quit smoking if they smoke

Life expectancy if you don’t is 95% die within five years of an MI they survived even with a stent or CABG ...doesn’t matter

Doctors do not do either for folks who are not dying and having what we refer to as a heart attack

Hey doc I’ve got chest tightening during sex how about some stents just for convenience sake and stamina for the hard to please old lady?

Ain’t gonna happen.

What amuses me most here is folks who haven’t had near death heart trouble lecturing how it’s done ..

But that as much a freeper mainstay same as not reading the article is

Vascepa for all! Come Monday after data from the new “Evaporate” study is released at the AHA convention Vascepa will be known as a liquid stint (EPA = icosapent ethyl, highly purified Omega 3) This pill removes plaque from your arteries. Currently prescribed for high trigs. The FDA will approve late next month for expanded label to use in combination with a Statin to prevent heart attack and stroke.
