Residents Authorized To Kill Invasive Ducks Running Amok In Town

PEARLAND, Texas (CBS Local) — Muscovy ducks are taking over a town in Texas and residents are now being encouraged to trap or even shoot them in some cases.

The City of Pearland is allowing landowners and homeowner’s associations (HOAs) to “address the ducks as seen fit, and within legal parameters, by the HOA or the landowner.”

Pearland is designated as a bird sanctuary city but the Muscovy duck is considered an invasive species from Central and South America and are therefore not protected.

“From the reports that we’ve heard, (the ducks) tend to be aggressive on properties and they push other species out and different things like that,” city spokesman Joshua Lee told KTRK.

“They say it cannot be kept, consumed or sold. Plus, the duck must be destroyed by legal means.”

How is this enforced? Especially the eating part?

Oh - I know. There is a snitch hotline, also used to report owners of assault style weapons. Dial 1-800-RED-FLAG.

They’re still here. Despite several attempts, no one’s been able to convince Louisiana diners that nutria is good to eat. They are after all, a rodent.

Oh, believe me, it is. You get that wet wood smoke that penetrates into the meat, then you finish it with that crispy glaze, it is to die for. Gotta make sure you score the skin so it doesn't get rubbery and the smoke has the opportunity to work it's magic with the meat. Soak those wood chips for two hours (or three, if you use chunks), then drain them and let them sit 30 minutes before you toss them on the hot coals. I endow you with a small part of years of trial and error in the manly art of meat smoking. You ought to be an apprentice in the making of my ribs. That requires another two or three hours of low-temp steaming with beer before the rack sees a grill.

You're welcome.

It’s OK to take anything from a garden scythe to a .410 shotgun to take of their itty-bitty widdle heads at close range, and stuff veggies up their asses for dinner. Let me know how the meal goes with the family.

Wow.

That could NEVER air today.

It was actually edgy and funny.

Something I didn’t know SNL could be.

Cause out of DOZENS of clips and shows i’ve watched, Ive NEVER laughed out loud.

On this one I did chuckle :)

I hate Muscovy ducks!

I was on a TDY to RAF Chicksands in England. They had Muscovy ducks everywhere. People told me they were protected by the Queen. Anyway, ducks everywhere, and duck FECES everywhere.

I decided to go to the base club that evening, so put on my white linen jacket over my silk black T-shirt (very Miami Vice, in style at the time) and hoofed it on over. I couldn’t see well in the dark, and headed down a short little steep slope to the parking lot and....

Slipped and fell into a big pile of duck poo. Got it all over my nice jacket. I went back to billeting and watched TV. I threw my jacket away. How do you pack a duck-craped jacket when you have to leave the next day?

I was wondering that, too. Even if incriminating feathers and guts are found, who is to say that you did not raise the duck yourself or acquire it from a backyard breeder?

(It still makes more sense to me to tell people just to eat them. The invasive ducks would be gone in no time.)

Unlike Texas, New Jersey will catch and relocate the turkeys rather than let residents enjoy a nice Thanksgiving.

Article say they are not allowed to eat the ducks.
